1812 Bicentennial BashWhat many have called the Second War of Independence, the War of 1812 was fought for two and a half years against the British over our freedom to trade without restrictions.

Start your day with some fun history and games, and then at 10:30am we welcome Rosalie Steirs Calvert portrayed by Mary Ann Jung, award winning actress who will take us on an adventure. We become a part of the action in the British versus the Americans. In 1794, sixteen year old Rosalie and her family fled Belgium to escape Napoleon’s advancing army. The vivacious Rosalie married George Calvert in 1799 and became mistress of his plantation, Mt. Albion. Later, she inherited her father’s planta-tion in Bladensburg, "Riversdale Plantation.”

Learn what it meant to be in charge of two growing plantations in early 1800's Maryland, re-live the dramatic Battle of Bladensburg, and discover what happened to Rosalie, her husband, and their nine children.

Following the show, we will have a bicentennial lunch of hot dogs, beans, potato salad, cherry pie and more. Stay after lunch for more fun. This event is sponsored by the Senior Services of Charles County, Inc., and the Waldorf Senior Center Council.
