FOR HAND AND MECHANICAL BROADCASTING, MIX 50 LB OF CLAY-BASED KITTY LITTER PER ACRE (43,560 SQ FT) WITH YOUR SEED PRIOR TO PLANTING, DIVIDINGTHIS MIX AND APPLYING HALF IN ONE DIRECTION OF PASSES, THEN APPLYING THE OTHER HALF IN A SERIES OF PASSES THAT ARE PERPENDICULAR TO THEFIRST PASSES. FOLLOWING BROADCASTING, USE A GARDEN RAKE OR SPRING-TOOTH HARROW TO INCORPORATE THE SEED INTO THE SOIL. THE SEEDBEDSHOULD THEN BE FIRMED USING A CULTIPACKER, LAWN ROLLER OR ATV TIRES. WHEN HYDRO-SEEDING, WE RECOMMEND A TWO-STEP APPLICATION OF NO MORE THAN 500 LB OF MULCH PER ACRE AS AN APPLICATION MARKER WITH THESEED AND 1,000 LB OF MULCH OVER THE TOP. GENERALLY, HYDRO-SEEDING IS NOT FOLLOWED UP WITH FIRMING THE SEEDBED.
DURING THE FIRST GROWING SEASON AFTER PLANTING, ALL VEGETATION SHOULD BE CUT BACK TO A HEIGHT OF 8� WHEN GROWTH REACHES 18�-20�.TYPICALLY, A PLANTING WILL NEED TO BE TRIMMED 3-5 TIMES WITH A STRING TRIMMER OR 3-POINT HITCH BRUSH HOG. FAILURE TO MOW DURING THE ESTABLISHMENT YEAR WILL ALLOW WEEDS, SUCH AS RAGWEED AND FOXTAIL, TO SMOTHER OUT THE MEADOW SPECIES,CAUSING STAND FAILURE. PROBLEM WEEDS (I.E., BURDOCK, DOCK, MILE-A-MINUTE AND THISTLE) SHOULD BE REMOVED BY MECHANICAL OR APPROPRIATECHEMICAL MEANS.
BEFORE NEW GROWTH BEGINS IN THE SECOND AND SUBSEQUENT GROWING SEASONS, THE MEADOW SHOULD BE TRIMMED TO A HEIGHT OF 2�-4� AND THECHAFF REMOVED TO ALLOW FASTER WARMING OF THE SOIL, WHICH HELPS THE NATIVE SPECIES COMPETE WITH WEEDY SPECIES. IT ALSO HELPS TO PREVENTENCROACHMENT BY WOODY SPECIES. 12. PLANTS SHALL BE SUBJECT TO REVIEW BY LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT AT NURSERY OR ON SITE PRIOR TO PLANTING. 16. IF SURFACE DRAINAGE IS NOT SUFFICIENT (STANDING WATER) NOTIFY LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT IN WRITING BEFORE INSTALLING THE PLANTS, OTHERWISECONTRACTOR SHALL BE TOTALLY REPONSIBLE FOR THE GUARANTEE AND LIVABILITY OF THE PLANTS.
17. BE FAMILIAR WITH UNDERGROUND UTILITIES BEFORE DIGGING. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE FULLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL DAMAGE OF UNDERGROUND OROVERHEAD UTILITY LINES.
18. CERTIFICATE OF INSPECTION AS MAY BE REQUIRED BY LAW FOR TRANSPORTATION OF PLANT MATERIALS SHALL ACCOMPANY EACH INVOICE FOR EACHSHIPMENT OF PLANTS. CERTIFICATES SHALL BE FILED WITH LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT PRIOR TO ACCEPTANCE OF MATERIAL. INSPECTION BY STATE OR FEDERALAUTHORITIES AT THE PLACE OF GROWTH DOES NOT PRECLUDE REJECTION OF THE MATERIAL BY THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT.
19. ALL PLANT MATERIALS AND INSTALLED LANDSCAPE SUPPLIES SHALL BE WARRANTED FOR A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR AFTER FINAL ACCEPTANCE OF THIS PROJECT.
20. CONTRACTOR'S PRICES SHALL INCLUDE ALL LABOR AND MATERIALS NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THE WORK (i.e. MULCH, PLANTING, SOIL MIX, WOOD AND WIRESTAKING MATERIAL, ETC.).
21. THE COMPLETION OF THE CONTRACT WILL BE ACCEPTED AND NOTICE OF COMPLETION RECORDED ONLY WHEN THE ENTIRE CONTRACT IS COMPLETED TO THESATISFACTION OF THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT, OWNER, AND THE OWNER'S CONSTRUCTION REPRESENTATIVE. WITHIN TEN DAYS NOTICE BY THE CONTRACTOR OFSUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT WILL INSPECT THE PROPERTY. HE WILL EITHER APPROVE THE WORK FOR THE OWNER'S ACCEPTANCE ORWILL ISSUE A "PUNCH LIST" OF ITEMS TO BE COMPLETED OR CORRECTED. IF A PUNCH LIST IS ISSUED, FINAL ACCEPTANCE WILL BE DONE AS SOON AS THECONTRACTOR COMPLETES ALL PUNCH LIST ITEMS.
22. TREES SHALL HAVE ROOT FLARES CLEARLY VISIBLE AND AT OR SILIGHTLY ABOVE GRADE. AT NO TIMES SHALL MULCH COVER THE ROOT FLARE.
23. NEITHER SHRUBS NOR TREES SHALL BE SHEARED WITHIN ONE MONTH PRIOR TO INSTALLATION. SELECTIVE PRUNING OF DEAD OR DAMAGED MATERIAL ISACCEPTABLE WHEN NOT IN EXCESS.
24. CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR WATERING OF ALL MATERIAL FOR THE FIRST YEAR OF ESTABLISHMENT. ANY MATERIAL LOST BY THE END OF THISESTABLISHMENT PERIOD SHALL BE REPLACED BY CONTRACTOR AT THEIR EXPENSE.
