FORTHCOMING
Dining has kicked off their food tastings for the new menus. I would love to hear your
thoughts on them. Please feel free to stop by and let me know your thoughts.
Before we know it, May will be here and we will be enforcing the transportation
schedule for medical appointments. Just a reminder it is Tuesdays and Thursdays
beginning May 1st. Appointments should be made at the front desk between the hours of
8am-3pm. If anyone is having trouble obtaining transportation through an outside
resource, please feel free to see myself or Michelle Morrell so we can assist.
Construction is moving along as scheduled. I promise to keep you and your family up-
to-date with everything. With that being said, I will be scheduling a family member
Town Hall meeting on Saturday, April 27. Please encourage your family members to
attend or at least provide me with their emails so I can keep them up-to-date.
One last thing… now that the weather is breaking with warmer temperatures and the sun
is shining, please remember to sign in and out with the desk or nursing if you are
leaving the building.
I wish both you and your loved ones a blessed Easter.
As always, it is a pleasure to serve you and my door is always open if you need
anything.
Warmly,
Jessica

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER Welcome to Summer Shore Family! We welcome the month of June as a time to exhale and prepare for breezy days and sunny skies. We don’t have a lot going on this month, but I would like to take a moment to recognize and thank one of our local pastors. Rev. Tom Stark has been one of our rotating pastors for Chapel on Wednesdays throughout the year. Rev. Stark served as pastor of the Good Shepherd UMC in Northfield and Somers Point UMC. He has been appointed to the Millville UMC. He has been a great brother in Christ to me and wonderful speaker for our Wednesday Chapel Services. We wish him and his family all God’s best! We welcome Rev. Juan Escalero, pastor of the Epiphany Lutheran Church in Pleasantville to the Shores Family. He has spoken once before, but will join us on a rotating schedule every other month. We will also be welcoming Thomas Szczerba for a summer internship here at The Shores. Thomas is a postulant for Holy Orders in the NJ Diocese of the Episcopal Church. He will be with us two days each week. Please welcome them both when they come on board. On Sunday, June 30th we will be gathering for a Memorial Celebration of Life. Our Shore family residents who have passed from October 15, 2018 through March 31, 2019 will be remembered. Letters will be going out to the families and all are welcome to attend. Please keep these families in your prayers. Blessings upon all & welcome to summer! Pastor Marcia Stanford Staff Chaplain
Please note: St. Peter’s video is back. Every Sunday in the Music Room at 3:30pm
there will be a viewing of that morning’s Service from St. Peter’s United Methodist
Church. All are welcome to attend.

Library Notes By Liz Gleich
Hi, Friends of the Library -
There is really welcome good news
this month for those who prefer to read the large print
books. The Pennswood Village Library has
generously gifted us with a collection of 24-30 books.
Among them are stories of many persuasions:
detective adventures, biographies, war stories, etc.
And, some of your favorite authors also show up such
as: Mary Higgins Clark, Kathy Reichs, Art
Buchwald, John Grisham and others.
In the next few weeks Louise and I may often be seen
alphabetizing and placing new tales happily among
their fellow books in the large print section. Drop in
and check to see whether any of the stories appeal to
you. Find yourself a cool, tranquil corner and settle
into an engrossing adventure. Maybe a frosty glass of
lemonade would be a fine addition.

Department Spotlight By Michele Fabiano, Building Services Director
As the day unfolds we often forget about what
is going on behind the scenes and the people
involved. We forget they are here at early
hours, getting ready for the day, taking care of
the exterior, dealing with trash in the
compactor, tending to emergencies or getting
ready to help out when needed in other areas
besides their assigned hall or rooms. Helping
to make UMC at the Shores a beautiful
building is the Housekeeping Team!
We celebrate their hard work, dedication to
their residents and the pride they take in their
jobs and our building. They recently had a
closet cleaning contest celebrating that pride.
Associates really got into it! Jean Monteith,
our fantastic Dietary Director, was the judge and carefully scrutinized each closet.
Missy was our first place winner who celebrated the day with photos of past awards of
fellow associates in her area as well. She said, “It should be this way, you should take
pride in what you do!” Pablo came in second with his unique organization as he utilized
an old armoire to save space. Third place went to Amy and most improved went to Tina.
Another award was given to Owen for the way the back of the house looks. While many
do not see this area, it is important that it is clean and organized at all times. Owen did
such a great job on the floors, that the associates were noticing and complimenting his
work.
The lucky winners received gift cards and Sparx awards provided by Sodexo. The
Shores housekeeping staff is led by Bryant Nix. Please congratulate them on all their
dedication and teamwork!

The Giving
Corner Sharing your passion with others Last year our resident, Midge Peacock, offered to teach the game of Mah Jongg to
interested residents. She enjoyed the game and was looking for a fun way to connect
with other residents. Little did she know how quickly the game would turn into a happy
addiction! Twice a week residents and volunteers gather in the Music Room to play and
play and play.
Recently, some of The Shores Mah Jongg players had an opportunity to take their love
of the game to the Lynda Brown Memorial Monday “Mah Jongg Madness”
Fundraiser at the Deauville Inn in Strathmere. This annual event is organized by local
Mah Jongg players in support of the Coalition Against Rape and Abuse (C.A.R.A.) and
in memory of Lynda Brown, former C.A.R. A. board member. Rose Rhine and Wendy
Dougherty, co-chairs of the event, were thrilled to welcome our residents this year. Rose
is the daughter of our resident, Marcella Wall. One of our residents was quoted as
saying, “It feels good to give back to a worthy cause while enjoying our favorite game!”
Thank you Midge for sharing your passion! It’s validation that it’s never too late to
learn something new!
If you’re interested in learning more about the important work of C.A.R.A. visit

The Shores driver, Pat, with Mah Jongg
players Ann, Phoebe, Nancy and Jackie.
Fundraiser organizer, Rose,
happily greets Jackie at the
Deauville Inn.
