Principal’s Report

As Term 1 draws to a close, it’s the perfect opportunity to reflect on what has happened

this term (it also helps us understand why staff and students are looking a bit tired). Just

some of the events this term have included; 3-6 Swimming, excursion to the Aquarium,

Getting to know you interviews and picnic, Bully Busters incursion, volunteer courses

…. and the list goes on.

Ace-Hi Camp

Next week students from Grades 3 and 4 will be attending camp at Ace-Hi, Cape Shank.

There are many excited students ready for their adventure full of fun activities including

horse riding, archery, flying fox and the giant swing.

I’m sure there will be many tired bodies by the time they return on Wednesday (and I’m

not just talking about the staff!). Luckily there will be only one day of term left, then we

all have two weeks holiday to recover and get ready for another action packed term.

Communication One of the things we pride ourselves on here at Berwick Chase is our open door policy,

where we continually make time for students to come and speak with us about issues that

may be concerning them. It is vitally important that if something is worrying one of our

students, they need to let a staff member know so that we can help them resolve the

problem and put their worries at ease. To develop a child’s resilience, we support them

in resolving the issue themselves, rather than solving it for them.

Our open door policy also applies to parents. In our experience, it is much more

effective to come and speak to us about any questions or concerns you may have, rather

than not saying anything or relying on the perception of others.

School Policies Attached to this newsletter are copies of our Homework Policy and Bike, Scooter and

Skateboard Policy. We have added these so that our community is aware of what our

expectations are for students. The homework policy is in accordance with the

Department of Education and Early Childhood Development guidelines.

Last Day of Term

The last day of term is just around the corner (Thursday, March 28th to be exact).

There will be no extra assembly in the morning, but there will be one in the gym in the

afternoon commencing at 2:15pm. School will finish at 2:30pm.

Holidays

Speaking of holidays, please remember that it is the responsibility of everyone to ensure

that our school is looked after over the holiday period. It’s great to see people using the

school facilities by making use of the basketball courts and playgrounds. We have a

wonderful community resource and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that our

grounds are used appropriately.

We hope you all have a safe and happy holiday.

See you next term

Jasmine– TRYathalon superstar!! The Berwick Chase Community would like to congratulate Jasmine from 3/4W on her fantastic efforts last weekend. She competed in the Week-bix Kids TRYathalon at St Kilda where she swam 70m, rode 3km and ran 500m against other competitors in her age group. She did really well competing against them - as well as the heat (it was 30+ degrees that day!). If you see her around please congratulate her on competing! And I'm told by Kellie (Jas’s mum) that this is the start of many more events that Jas will compete in – just as soon as Kellie has recovered! If you are interested in competing in similar events to these, please feel free to talk to Mr Shaw or Jas for more information.
