2015 Local Course Guide Date of issue: January 2015 This qualification addresses work primarily in residential facilities under direct or regular supervision within clearly defined organisation guidelines and service plans. These workers: Carry out activities to maintain personal care and/or other activities of living for people in an aged care setting Carry out activities related to an individualised plan Report directly to a supervisor and are not responsible for other workers Pathways from the qualification: After achieving this Certificate III qualification, individuals may undertake further studies in: CHC40108 Certificate IV in Aged Care OR CHC40312 Certificate IV in Disability Further Study Pathways Job roles/ Occupational titles This course may provide learners with employment opportunities in an aged care facility. Relevant job titles include: Personal care assistant Personal care worker Aged care worker Community care worker Mode of Study Classroom theory Practical ‘hands-on’ experience Self-directed learning Industry work placement Assessment Learners will be assessed through a combination of projects, questioning, case scenarios, and observation in the workplace. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) A learner may be entitled to gain unit of competency credits or recognition, if what they have learned at work, from other programs, courses, from life experience or training provided at work is relevant to the course. SCEI recognises the AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by other registered training organisations.For further information see the RPL brochure or visit www.scei.edu.au Entry Requirements Individuals would need to fulfil the following requirements: Aged 18 years or above Successful completion of Year 10 or the equivalent level of study CHC30212 Certificate III in Aged Care Successful completion of SCEI’s Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Indicator Mature aged who have diverse academic, work and life experiences are encouraged to enrol. The definition of a mature aged student for SCEI’s purposes is a person over 21 years of age that hasn’t been studying at either year 12 level or university/ TAFE level for at least 7 years and are an Australian or New Zealand citizen(or Australian permanent resident or holder of a permanent Humanitarian Visa). Additional Requirements Learners must undertake National Police Check and make a Commonwealth of Australia Statutory Declaration before commencing work placement.
