System was initiated in DeSoto ISD in 2009-2010 district wide School-wide Universal- for all students Classrooms Hallways Cafeteria Gym 5. Provides structure Research and data based approach that can be applied to other programs Tailored to meet the needs of your school and community Guided by a site-based leadership team 6. Helps decrease referrals Rewards positive behavior Teaches students expected behavior Creates a team environment 7. Focuses more on students who ARE following the rules and sets expectations high on all students. Creates a team environment when ALL staff members take an active role in the plan. Is unique to each campus-individual campus data drives the decisions and expectations of the students. 8. Review Revise Adopt Implementation/ Maintain Prioritize 9. All means all Its all about connecting Ongoing monitoring of the system 10. ALL staff will reward positive behavior In the halls/passing period/restroom In the cafeteria In the gym In the classroom In the auditorium During arrival and dismissal times Positive reinforcements will be used to diffuse negative behavior in all areas of the campuses. 11. In the first few weeks of school, ALL classes will emphasize campus expectations such as *How to walk in the halls *How to address ALL adults/peers with respect *How to behave in the cafeteria *Classroom etiquette * Dress code 12. Rationale Do all students know the guidelines? Make a difference Set the tone 13. The acronym will be used throughout the year to emphasize the character you want to instill. You may tie these character traits to the campus goals so the students can work toward them all year. Examples: C.L.A.W.S., P.R.I.D.E., C.H.O.I.C.E.S. etc. 14. ACRONYM & TRAIT HOW CAN WE USE IT? AWARD C-Courtesy L-Loyalty A-Accountability W-Wise choices S- Staying Focused 15. Re-training will be used to remind students of rules when needed throughout the year (by departments) 16. Staff should come up with a collective rubric that defines what the expected behaviors look and sound like. Implementation schedule Effective supervision Evaluating the system Look at what variables can you as a campus manipulate. Gather data Weekly, monthly, quarterly committee meetings 17. Bingo cards (that students keep up with) ALL staff initial (or name stamp) in the squares. Randomly do a brief announcement telling teachers to give everyone a stamp in the PREPARED column if they are in dress code. Students are responsible for keeping up with their cards daily. New cards (different color) each 6 weeks. Students turn in their card after they have tallied them. High number winner for 6 weeks will get award Weekly drawings 18. Prepared Respect Involved Dedicated Engaged/ Enthusiastic 19. Tickets that ALL staff hand out-different colors for each meeting. Staff writes students names on CLAWS tickets Students have to turn in their tickets to homeroom teacher. PBIS grade level representative collects from team 20. If increases are noticed in February & March in just about every violation More rewards should be given in those increased months to encourage those not doing what they are supposed to do and reward those that are. Look at the violations your campus had the most of. Some data may look a bit skewed if there werent written referrals to be logged into the computer. 21. What data will be collected and analyzed? All referrals-sorted by offense/teacher The data is sorted by offenses to determine Particular months where more positive behavior should be rewarded Largest areas of concern on the campus Re-enforcement needs of student behavior expectations at the campus 22. Why sort the data by teacher? To show teachers areas where they should use positive rewards to reduce referrals To help teachers set clear student expectations and have a more productive classroom experience 23. Campus Staff Development First week of school Introduce the program to students & parents Begin lesson plan schedule Begin effective supervision techniques in the targeted common areas and classrooms Team meetings monthly to every 6 weeks Monthly C.L.A.W.S. meeting 24. Provide ongoing training/support Visit team meetings Observations/site visits C.H.E. will support, supply and monitor all classrooms 25. Each campus will receive campus visits unannounced to assess the campus climate Visits will consist of one or more of the following: Administrator visit Non-classroom visit (halls, lunchroom, arrival/dismissal etc) Classroom visit 26. To assess behavior support, the current status of each area in the system will be evaluated as: A) In place B) Partially in place C) Not in place (Example: Non-classroom setting-Supervisors (all staff) actively supervise (move, scan & interact) students in non- classroom settings. For those areas rated partially in place or not in place, a priority for improvement will be rated (high, medium or low). 27. Take this time to review your campus data from the 2013-14 school year. Look for trends, peak times, areas of increase in referrals (offenses) etc. 28. After analyzing the data, decide as a team/campus what the goals will be for the 2014-15 school year. Send a copy of your campus PBIS plan and Guidelines for Success (GFS) to the Student Support Services Department. 29. If a child doesnt know how to read, we teach. If a child doesnt know how to swim, we teach. If a child doesnt know how to multiply, we teach. If a child doesnt know how to drive, we teach. If a child doesnt know how to behave, we TEACH.
