ANTICIPATED PROJECT TIMELINE COMMITMENTS CONTACT The Chelsea Viaduct carries Route 1 from the end of the Tobin Bridge to the County Road Overpass. It is a crucial link between Chelsea, the northern suburbs, and Boston. Built in 1957, the viaduct is safe, but structurally deficient. To ensure the safety of this critical connection, the Chelsea Viaduct will undergo rehabilitation to ensure another 75 years of service. To minimize the impacts to Chelsea, the MBTA Bus Routes that cross the viaduct, and the 63,000 vehicles per day using the structure, MassDOT will use accelerated construction techniques.
