Schools Spectacular Success!
Congratulations to Lily who participated in the Schools Spectacular Choir and to our 16 Schools Spectacular
dancers, Bethany, Stella, Tahlia, Mia, Charlie, Jessica, Connor, Constance, Emily, Valentina, Charlotte, Allegra,
Annamaria, Natasha, Isabella and Emily. The students thoroughly enjoyed being selected to participate in the
2017 Schools Spectacular production. Our students did an outstanding job, performing at four concerts on
Friday and Saturday. Thank you to Mrs Bartley for coordinating Schools Spectacular this year and to Mrs
Rainford, Mrs Anastasiou, Mrs Wilkie, Mrs Flett, Miss Collins and Miss Westren for assisting with the many
rehearsals and supervision. A huge thank you to our talented dance teacher, Miss Larissa, for continuing to
provide such a high standard of dance tuition for our students.
We will be doing a group photo with the 17 students involved on Thursday. We kindly ask that students bring
in their Schools Spectacular top for the photo.
Southhaven Aged Care Christmas Visit
Following our SRC students’ initial visit in Term 3 to Southhaven Aged Care, it was lovely to be able to return
for a Christmas visit. Thank you to Mrs Makryllos, Mrs Burns and Mrs Psaltis for assisting me to transport our
student representatives to Southhaven Aged Care last Tuesday. We enjoyed singing Christmas carols and
giving gifts to the residents. We look forward to continued visits in 2018 and commend our students for the
maturity and kindness they have demonstrated.
Here are two reports written by some of the students who participated:
“On the 21st November, 17 members of the SRC returned to Southhaven for a Christmas visit. We sang the
‘Aussie Jingle Bells’ and ‘We Wish You a Ripper Christmas’. The residents made us feel warm and they were
caring and welcoming. We were welcomed with applause when we arrived and we loved watching their faces
light up as they sang along with our Christmas carols. They invited us to morning tea and we made further
connections and chatted with the residents.
We spread even more Christmas cheer by distributing presents; some residents were emotional and thankful
and they made our visit feel worthwhile. We would like to thank Mrs Makryllos, Mrs Williams, Mrs Burns and
Mrs Psaltis who took time out of their busy schedules to transport us to the nursing home.”

“Last Tuesday we visited Southhaven Aged Care where we sang two Aussie Christmas carols and gave the
residents some gifts. Knowing that some of the residents sometimes feel a bit lonely, we knew how much it
meant to them that we visited. We wanted to spread some Christmas cheer and help make the residents feel
happy and jolly. Before we left, we shared morning tea with them and distributed gifts to our warm hearted
new friends. We had a great time and can’t wait to go back. We’d like to thank all of the kind parents and
teachers who took time out of their busy days to give us this opportunity.”

Debating Workshop
Last Thursday a group of year 4 and year 5 students were selected to participate in a debating workshop
hosted by GRC Peakhurst High. The students attended with Mrs Harris and had a fabulous day of learning,
mixing with other local primary school students and working with student mentors from the high school.

LPS TECH CLUB TERM 4, WEEK 7
Coding
In June this year LPS started Tech Club for years 3-6.
There was a large interest from students who wanted to
learn to “code”. Since then we have had a group of
approximately 30 students who have progressed along
this journey.
Students began by completing set tasks on code.org
progressing through multiple levels. Once they had
mastered this platform they began on “Scratch” a
more advanced drop and drag coding program.
I have enjoyed watching the students in this group
collaborate and problem solve to find the solution to
many complex computational problems.
The students have created many different projects that
have been shared with their colleagues and myself.
Some examples are; advertisements, games and
animations.
