We have some exciting worship and fellowship opportunities for Lent and Holy Week. For our worship on Wednesdays in Lent, we will utilize Marty Haugen’s Holden Evening Prayer, with special music on piano and classical guitar, and solo singers. For these worship services, we plan to replace the traditional sermon with ‘sermon dialogues.’ Disciples are needed as actors for these dialogues, as well as to provide meals and supplies for the youth meals. Signup sheets are in the back of the sanctuary. Please jot down these dates in your calendars.
WEDNESDAY WORSHIP SCHEDULE (in TRC):
March 8, 15, 22, 29 & April 5th

See you in worship! Pastor Joe Woodward
Chairman, Duane Kurtin, called the meeting to order at 6:0 PM, followed by a brief
devotional, given by Pat Bruggman. Members present: Duane Kurtin, Frank Horak,
Dorothy Marwitz, Pat Bruggman, Walt Saverse, Cedalia Kurtz, Alan Shepherd, Donna
Campbell and Pastor Joe Woodward. New council members present were Justin
Young, Bill Woolley, Ronnie Persky, Kristi Dague, Pat Stroud and Darrell Marek.
The Secretary Report for the December 2016 meeting was reviewed by council. A
motion was made by Frank Horak, seconded by Donna Campbell to accept the minutes
as presented. Motion carried.
The Treasurer Report was given by Dorothy Marwitz. Council members were
given copies of all the DDA statements for December 2016. A brief discussion was held.
A motion was made by Pat Bruggman, seconded by Alan Shepherd to accept the report
as presented. Motion passed.
Old Business: Election of council officers for 2016. After a brief discussion
Duane Kurtin told council he was willing to serve as President for a second term; it was
approved unanimously.
A nomination was made by Frank Horak, seconded by Kristi Dague, for Ronnie Persky
to serve as council Vice President, motion passed unanimously.
A nomination was made by Kristi Dague, seconded by Pat Stroud, for Pat Bruggman to
serve as council Secretary for another year, motion passed.
Upon farther discussion, Frank Horak nominated Darrell Marek for Treasurer, seconded
by Bill Woolley; Darrell graciously agreed to serve as Treasurer, the motion passed.
Committee Reviews: Since a church congregational meeting had just been held the
previously Sunday there was no new committee news to share at this time.
Pastor’s Report: Pastor Joe Woodward greeted the new members onto the
council and thanked everyone for their time. Pastor gave the board a copy of his
mileage report for December 2016.
Committee Selections: Parish Education- Frank Horak, Worship Committee-Donna
Campbell, Property Committee- Ronnie Persky, Bill Woolley, Justin Young and Alan
Shepherd. Youth Committee-Kristi Dague, Membership & Fellowship-Cedalia Kurtz.
Stewardship- Public Relations Committee-Pat Stroud.
upgraded features. Frank Horak made a motion to accept the new 5 year contract and
in doing so save $115.83 per month. Darrell Marek seconded that motion. The motion
passed by council.
The church secretary, Glena Hood came into the council meeting at 6:30 to introduce
herself to council and to get to know a few of the faces of those that she works with
over the phone.
Next order of business was to set up a committee to look into the church’s insurance
policy. It has been determined that we need to do some price shopping; the current
insurance policy that is for coverage of the buildings and liability is costing St. John
close to $22,000.00 per year. After a brief discussion, Pat Bruggman was asked if she
could please form a committee and set up a meeting with Church Mutual Insurance to
review the policy. A motion to this effect was made by Bill Woolley and seconded by
Alan Shepherd. The motion passed.
Council was updated on the updating of the church’s membership book. A committee
comprised of Cedalia Kurtz, Sharon Koonsen, Mag Thaler, Shirley Fischer and
Catherine Spiegelhauer will be asked to serve in this capacity.
Newsletter items need to be turned in to the church office by the 19th of each month.
Those assigned to be co-signers on the church’s DDA for 2017 are as follows:
Duane Kurtin, Bill Woolley, Cedalia Kurtz and Darrell Marek.
The subjects of updating the church’s constitution and writing up council job
descriptions was tabled at this time. Council will readdress these items at a later date
this year.
President Kurtin asked for a motion of adjournment. Donna Campbell made the
motion to adjourn, seconded by Cedalia Kurtz. The motion carried.
Council closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
Respectfully submitted,
Pat Bruggman

ATTENTION YOUTH: The ELCA National Gathering is fast approaching and we need to know who is interested in attending this incredible week of faith. June 27- July 1, 2018 we will be gathering in Houston, Texas with 30,000 other youth. Through interactive learning, worship, Bible study, service and fellowship, young people grow in faith and are challenged and inspired to live their faith in their daily lives. Youth who are in the 8th grade - 12th grade as of September 15, 2017 are eligible to attend. Please text or email me so we can plan a meeting to discuss fund raisers and registration.
Thank you, Kristi Dague (254)913-1072 or [email protected].
