Welcome letter

Dear Applicant,

Thank you very much for your interest in becoming a Board Member of Chichester Greyfriars

Housing Association.

Chichester Greyfriars Housing Association is striving to ensure that it provides the services

that our tenants need to the highest standard. One of the things that continues to highlight our

small Housing Association is both the quality of housing, the staff we employ and Board

Members. Without our Board Members, the Association would not be able to do what we do,

and to such a high standard.

We are now looking for three new Board Members to help us to further articulate and realise

our future ambitions and continue to achieve our objective to provide affordable housing and

associated facilities and amenities for older people in need.

As we are looking to increase the number of units we have in management and thus provide

housing and services for more tenants, we are looking for Board Members with empathy with

the objective and strategy of the Association and expertise in any of the following three

areas

Property management – strategic asset management

Provision of housing services for the elderly – safeguarding, knowledge of

statutory and voluntary sectors

New development – planning, development potential.

Applicants need to have a passion for our social purpose, a strong connection to the local area

and a willingness and aptitude to keep abreast of the current social housing scene.

The advert and these briefing papers says more about where we are going and the type of

person we are looking for to join our Board.

I think this is a really exciting time to be joining the Board of Chichester Greyfriars Housing

Association and I look forward to considering your application.

David Siggs Chair

About Chichester Greyfriars Housing Association

Chichester Greyfriars Housing Association (CGHA) provides affordable housing and

associated facilities and amenities for older people in need who have a local connection in the

Chichester area.

The association was founded in 1969 and its mission is:

‘To provide affordable housing and associated facilities and amenities for older people in need

who have a local connection with Chichester.’

This is currently achieved through the ownership and management of 83 flats in Chichester.

These are located at Royal Close and St Pancras.

Value for Money

CGHA aims to deliver value for money and social value by ensuring we take account of:

Economy - careful use of resources to save expense, time or effort.

Efficiency - delivering the same level of service for less cost, time or effort.

Effectiveness - delivering a better service or getting a better return for the same

amount of expense, time or effort.

About the Board

CGHA is well served by members of the Board, all of whom serve in a voluntary capacity.

The housing sector has entered a period of great change and CGHA recognises the need to

ensure the Association is in a position to meet the challenges which are already being

presented. The Association is meeting a number of challenges with a pro-active approach.

This is evidenced by:

The Business Plan recently approved which sets out the Association’s plans for the

next 5 years.

The Asset Management Strategy and Financial Strategy which support the Business

Plan.

Determination to increase the number of properties within the portfolio in order to

provide additional accommodation for older people in need in Chichester.

Adoption of policies which ensure compliance with current legislation e.g.

safeguarding, data protection.

Appointment of Risk Management consultancy to provide oversight of the Risk

Register.

All these items will continue to be an essential part of the Association’s work over the next 12

months.
