Announcements

Processional: GOD OF GRACE AND GOD OF GLORY

God of grace and God of glory, on your people pour your power;

crown your ancient Church's story, bring its bud to glorious flower.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage for the facing of this hour,

for the facing of this hour.

Lo! the hosts of evil round us scorn your Christ, assail your his ways!

Fears and doubts too long have bound us, free our hearts to work and praise.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage for the living of these days,

for the living of these days.

Heal your children's warring madness, bend our pride to your control;

shame our wanton, selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage lest we miss your kingdom's goal,

lest we miss your kingdom's goal.

Page 3: Christ Our Hope Anglican Church file02.06.2014 · ALMIGHTY God, unto Whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from Whom no secrets are hidden; leanse the thoughts of our hearts

Save us from weak resignation to the evils we deplore;

let the gift of your salvation be our glory evermore.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, serving you whom we adore,

serving you whom we adore. Words: Harry E. Fosdick, 1930; alt., Public Domain.

Opening Acclamation

Minister. Blessed be God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Answer. And Blessed be His kingdom now and forever. Amen.

Minister. The Lord be with you. Answer. And with your spirit. Minister. Let us pray.

Collect for Purity ALMIGHTY God, unto Whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from Whom no secrets are hidden; Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of Your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love You, and worthily magnify Your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Summary of the Law Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ said.

YOU shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it, You shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. (St. Matthew 22:37-40)

Minister. The Lord be with you. Answer. And with your spirit.

Minister. Let us pray.

O ALMIGHTY Lord, and everlasting God, we humbly ask that You direct, sanctify, and govern, both our hearts and bodies, in the ways of Your laws, and in the works of Your commandments; that, through Your most mighty protection, both here and ever, we may be preserved in body and soul; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Collect for Second Sunday after Pentecost O LORD, make us have perpetual love and reverence for your holy Name, for you never fail to help and govern those whom you have set upon the sure foundation of your loving-kindness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

The First Lesson: Genesis 21:8-21

Lector: This is the Word of the Lord. Answer. Thanks be to God.

The Psalm: Psalm 69.7-10, 16-17

7 Let not those who hope in you be put to shame through me,

Lord God of hosts;

let not those who seek you be disgraced because of me,

O God of Israel. 8 Surely, for your sake have I suffered reproach,

and shame has covered my face. (Antiphon) 9 I have become a stranger to my own kindred,

an alien to my mother’s children. 10 Zeal for your house has eaten me up;

the scorn of those who scorn you has

fallen upon me. (Antiphon) 16 Save me from the mire; do not let me sink;

let me be rescued from those who hate me

neither let the deep swallow me up;

do not let the Pit shut its mouth upon me. (Antiphon)

The Holy Gospel for the Trinity Sunday Minister. The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew chapter 10, beginning in the Twenty

fourth verse.

Answer. Glory be to You, O Lord.

Minister. The Gospel of the Lord.

Answer. Praise be to You, O Christ.

The Nicene Creed I BELIEVE in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And of all things visible and invisible:

Page 8: Christ Our Hope Anglican Church file02.06.2014 · ALMIGHTY God, unto Whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from Whom no secrets are hidden; leanse the thoughts of our hearts

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, Begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of very God, Begotten, not made, Being of one substance with the Father, By Whom all things were made: Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, And was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, And was made man, And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried, And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures, And ascended into heaven, And sits on the right hand of the Father. And He shall come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead; Whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, The Lord, and Giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, Who spoke by the Prophets. And I believe one holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins. And I look for the Resurrection of the dead, And the Life of the world to come. Amen.

The Children's Sermon

The Sermon The Offertory Presentation Hymn: “Doxology”

Praise God from whom all blessings flow,

Praise Him all creatures here below.

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host.

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen

THE LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST OUR fellow Christians of other branches of Christ’s Church, who have been Baptized in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, are affectionately invited to the Lord’s Table.

Priest: Let us pray for the whole state of Christ’s Church.

ALMIGHTY and everliving God, Who by Your holy Apostle has taught us to make prayers, and supplications, and to give thanks for all men; In Your mercy accept our [alms and] holy offerings, and receive these our prayers, which we offer unto Your Divine Majesty; humbly asking You to inspire continually the universal Church with the spirit of truth, unity, and harmony: And grant that all those who do confess Your holy Name may agree in the truth of Your holy Word, and live in unity and godly love.

WE humbly ask You also, so to direct and dispose the hearts of all those in authority, (especially our President, the Congress, the Supreme Court, our Governor and our military leaders) that they may truly and impartially administer justice, to the punishment of wickedness and vice, and to the maintenance of Your true religion, and virtue.

Priest. Lord, in your mercy,

People. Hear our prayer.

GIVE grace, O heavenly Father, to all Bishops and other Ministers, (especially to Robert, our Archbishop, Royal, our Presiding Bishop, and Daniel, our Bishop Ordinary and Peter, our Suffragan Bishop) that they may, both by their life and doctrine, set forth Your true and lively Word, and rightly and duly administer Your holy Sacraments.

Priest. Lord, in your mercy,

People. Hear our prayer.

Page 9: Christ Our Hope Anglican Church file02.06.2014 · ALMIGHTY God, unto Whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from Whom no secrets are hidden; leanse the thoughts of our hearts

9

AND to all Your People give Your heavenly grace; and especially to this congregation here present; that, with meek heart and due reverence, we may hear, and receive Your holy Word; truly serving You in holiness and righteousness all the days of their life.

Priest. Lord, in your mercy,

People. Hear our prayer.

AND we most humbly ask You, of Your goodness, O Lord, to comfort and assist all those, who in this transitory life are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity. ***You are invited to speak aloud your own intentions at this time***

AND we also bless Your holy Name for all Your servants departed this life in Your faith and fear; humbly asking you to grant them continual growth in your love and service, and to give us grace so to follow their good examples, that with them we may be partakers of Your heavenly kingdom. Grant this, O Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

THE CONFESSION YOU who do truly and earnestly repent of your sins, and are in love and charity with your neighbours, and intend to lead a new life, following the commandments of God, and walking from henceforth in His holy ways; Draw near with faith, and take this holy Sacrament to your comfort; and make your humble confession to Almighty God, devoutly kneeling.

ALMIGHTY God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all men; We acknowledge and deeply mourn our many sins and wickedness, Which we, from time to time, most grievously have committed, By thought, word, and deed, Against Your Divine Majesty, Provoking most justly Your wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent, And are heartily sorry for these our many sins; The remembrance of them is grievous unto us; The burden of them is intolerable. Have mercy upon us, Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; For Your Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, Forgive us all that is past; And grant that we may ever hereafter Serve and please You in newness of life, To the honour and glory of Your Name; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE ABSOLUTION ALMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, Who of His great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto Him; Have mercy upon you; pardon and deliver you from all your sins; confirm and strengthen you in all goodness; and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE COMFORTABLE WORDS HEAR what comfortable words our Saviour Christ says unto all who truly turn to Him.

Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will refresh you. (Matthew 11:28)

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (St. John 3:16)

HEAR also what Saint Paul says.

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. (1 Timothy 1:15)

HEAR also what Saint John says.

If anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins (1 St. John 2:1, 2)

THE PEACE

Priest: The Peace of the Lord be always with you.

People: And also with you.

Priest: Please share a sign of God’s peace with one another.

LIFT UP YOUR HEARTS

Priest: The Lord be with you

People: And with your spirit.

Priest: Lift up your hearts.

People: We lift them up unto the Lord.

Priest: Let us give thanks unto our Lord God.

People: It is good and right so to do.

IT is very good, right, and our required duty, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto You, O Lord, Holy Father, Almighty, Everlasting God.

WHO, with your co-eternal Son, and Holy Spirit, are one God, one Lord, in Trinity of Persons and in Unity of Substance. For that which we believe of your glory, O Father, we believe the same of your Son, and of the Holy Spirit, without any: difference of inequality.

THEREFORE with Angels and Archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we praise and magnify Your glorious Name; evermore praising You, and singing [saying],

Page 11: Christ Our Hope Anglican Church file02.06.2014 · ALMIGHTY God, unto Whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from Whom no secrets are hidden; leanse the thoughts of our hearts

11

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER ALL glory be to You, Almighty God, our heavenly Father, Who of Your tender mercy did give Your only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the Cross for our redemption; Who made there (by His one oblation of Himself once offered) a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, offering, and complete payment, for the sins of the whole world; and did institute, and in His Holy Gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memory of that His precious death and sacrifice, until His coming again;

FOR in the night in which He was betrayed, He took Bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it, and gave it to His disciples, saying, “Take, eat, this is My Body which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of Me.” Likewise, after supper, He took the Cup; and, when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is My Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you and for many, for the remission of sins: Do this, as often as you shall drink it, in remembrance of Me.

Page 12: Christ Our Hope Anglican Church file02.06.2014 · ALMIGHTY God, unto Whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from Whom no secrets are hidden; leanse the thoughts of our hearts

12

WHEREFORE, O LORD and heavenly Father, according to the institution of Your dearly beloved Son our Saviour Jesus Christ, we Your humble servants celebrate and make here before Your Divine Majesty, with these Your holy gifts, which we now offer unto you, the memorial Your Son has commanded us to make; having in remembrance His blessed passion and precious death, His mighty resurrection and glorious ascension; submitting unto you most heartfelt thanks for the innumerable benefits He has obtained for us.

AND we most humbly ask You, O merciful Father, to hear us; and of Your almighty goodness, grant to bless and sanctify with your Word and Holy Spirit, these Your gifts and creatures of bread and wine; that we, receiving them according to Your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ’s holy institution, in remembrance of His death and passion, may be partakers of His most blessed Body and Blood.

Priest: Great is the Mystery of faith.

People: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

AND we earnestly desire Your Fatherly goodness mercifully to accept this, our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving; most humbly begging You to grant, that by the merits and death of Your Son Jesus Christ, and through faith in His blood, we and all Your whole Church may obtain remission of our sins, and all other benefits of His passion. And here we offer and present unto You, O Lord, ourselves, our souls and bodies, to be a reasonable, holy, and living sacrifice unto You; humbly begging You, that we, and all partakers of the Holy Communion, may worthily receive the most precious Body and Blood of Your Son Jesus Christ, be filled with Your grace and heavenly benediction, and be made one body with Him, that He may dwell in us and we in Him. And although we are unworthy, through our many sins, to offer unto You any sacrifice, yet we beg You to accept this our required duty and service; not weighing our merits, but pardoning our offences, through Jesus Christ our Lord; by Whom, and with Whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be Yours, O Father Almighty, world without end. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER (sing) Priest: AND now, as our Saviour Christ has taught us, we are bold to SING (say,)

Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread

And forgive us our trespasses – as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, and the power, and the glory are yours – now and forever. Amen

THE PRAYER OF HUMBLE ACCESS

WE do not presume to come to this Your Table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in Your manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under Your Table. But You are the same Lord, whose character is always to have mercy: Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of Your dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink His blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by His body, and our souls washed through His most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in Him, and He in us. Amen.

Page 13: Christ Our Hope Anglican Church file02.06.2014 · ALMIGHTY God, unto Whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from Whom no secrets are hidden; leanse the thoughts of our hearts

13

BEHOLD THE LAMB Priest: Behold the Lamb of God. Behold, He who takes away the sins of the world. Happy are we who are called to His supper.

People: Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof. But only say the word, and my soul shall be healed.

¶And the Minister who delivers the Bread shall say,

THE Body of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was given for you, preserve your body and soul unto everlasting life. Take and eat this in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on Him in your heart by faith with thanksgiving.

Or, THE Body of Christ; the Bread of Heaven.

¶ And the Minister who delivers the Cup shall say,

THE Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was shed for you, preserve your body and soul unto everlasting life. Drink this in remembrance that Christ’s Blood was shed for you, and be thankful.

Or, THE Blood of Christ; the Cup of Salvation.

HOLY COMMUNION- All baptized Christians are invited to take communion. If you or a child with you does not wish to take communion, but does wish to receive a blessing, please come forward, and cross your arms, hands touching the shoulders.

BLESSED BE YOUR NAME

Blessed be Your name

In the land that is plentiful

Where Your streams of abundance flow

Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name

When I'm found in the desert place

Though I walk through the wilderness

Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out I'll

turn back to praise.

When the darkness closes in, Lord,

still I will say,

"Blessed be the name of the Lord,

blessed be Your name.

Blessed be the name of the Lord,

blessed be Your glorious name."

Blessed be Your name

When the sun's shining down on me

When the world's “all as it should be”

Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name

On the road marked with suffering

Though there's pain in the offering

Blessed be Your name

You give and take away

You give and take away

My heart will choose to say

Lord blessed be Your name

Blessed be the name of the Lord,

blessed be Your name.

Blessed be the name of the Lord,

blessed be Your glorious name.

Minister. The Lord be with you. Answer. And with your spirit.

Minister. Let us pray.

THE PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING ALMIGHTY and eternal God, we most heartily thank You for having fed us, who have now received these holy mysteries, with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of Your Son our Saviour, Jesus Christ. You have assured us thereby of Your favour and goodness towards us; and that we are members incorporated into the mystical Body of Your Son, which is the blessed company of all faithful people; and are also heirs through hope of Your everlasting kingdom, by the merits of the most precious death and passion of Your dear Son. And, we most humbly pray, O heavenly Father, that you will assist us with Your grace, so that we may continue in that holy fellowship and accomplish all the good works that You have prepared for us to walk in; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with You and the Holy Spirit, be all honour and glory, forever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER FOR THOSE IN NEED OF HEALING

THE BLESSING Priest: The Lord be with you.

People: And with your spirit.

Priest: THE peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord: And the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen.

THE RECESSIONAL: RISE UP O MEN OF GOD

Rise up O men of God

Have done with lesser things

Give heart and soul

And mind and strength

To serve the King of kings

Rise up O men of God

His kingdom tarries long

Bring in the day of brotherhood

And end the night of wrong

Rise up O men of God

The church for you doth wait

Her strength unequal to her task

Rise up and make her great

evening, a day of training for all those interested in learning more about healing prayer on Saturday, and a

Healing Service for all on Saturday evening. This promises to be an important time in the life of our parish and

we hope everyone will make plans to take advantage of this very special opportunity.

Church Calendar We now have a published Church Calendar. It lists dates of special events and services, and notes when those

include a meal or refreshments. If you didn’t receive one in this bulletin, please pick one up from the back

table.
