Second Sunday of Lent
Since last July 2014 we have had 67 new families join our parish. I have sent letters of welcome to all of them, but want to say again, WELCOME. We sincerely hope you are making your home with us and are discerning about how God is calling you into ministry. Please let us know how we can serve you. We are making progress on the playground. The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston has particular specifications that construction companies must have to be able to work in our parishes. We have been interviewing various companies and looking for those that qualify and then asking if they would like to bid the job of renovating our playground. We have made much progress. I hope that you will be seeing actual physical work very soon. This also includes work on companies that are qualified for demolition of the old rectory. I have begun meeting about some of the various needs of the rest of our physical plant including the church and the other buildings. We are putting a priority list together with the help of experts. But I must tell you, the list is a bit long and the jobs are expensive. So if you are not already tithing to the parish (sharing with the parish a minimum of 10% of your time, talent and treasure), I sincerely invite you to pray about that. The fact is, no matter what the list ends up being, if we do not have the finances to accomplish the jobs they cannot be done. The beauty of God’s teaching is that if we all share a small portion of what God has blessed us, combined it creates all that we need. I have also begun to meet with some liturgical consultants to look at what our needs are within the church itself, including things like replacing the pew cushions, evaluating the carpeting, analyzing the structural supports, etc. Lent is supposed to be a time when we concentrate on how we can grow closer to God. We are offering several things for you this Lent, including today (Sunday, March 1) an exhibition highlighting Eucharistic miracles that have happened in history in our Church. This exhibit will be open from 8:30 a.m. –5:00 p.m. in the Large Hall (parish hall). Admission is free. It is a self-guided tour with large posters depicting these miracles. We are offering two Lenten missions this year, one in Spanish and the other in English. The Spanish mission begins TONIGHT (March 1) through Tuesday in the church entitled “Llamados, Renovados y Enviados” presented by Mr. José Juan Valdez beginning at 7:30 p.m. Our mission in English will be March 15, 16, 17 starting at 7:00 p.m. It is presented by Fr. Martin Iott, OP. Fr. Iott is a priest of the Dominican religious order. Our Lenten Communal Penance service will be here on Wednesday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m. Please see the bulletin for other area penance services.)

Segundo domingo de Cuaresma
Desde el pasado julio del 2014 hemos tenido 67 nuevas familias inscritas en nuestra parroquia. Hemos enviado cartas de bienvenida a todos ellos, pero quiero decir una vez más, Bienvenidos. Esperamos sinceramente que hagan esta su casa con nosotros y al mismo tiempo hagan un discernimiento en cómo es que Dios le está llamando a un Ministerio. Por favor, háganos saber cómo podemos servirle. Estamos progresando en el parque de los juegos infantiles. La Arquidiócesis de Galveston-Houston tiene especificaciones particulares que las empresas de construcción deben tener para poder trabajar en nuestras parroquias. Hemos entrevistando a varias empresas y aquellas que califican hemos pedido presupuestos para la renovación de nuestro parque infantil. Hemos hecho mucho progreso. Espero que usted vea el trabajo real muy pronto. Esto también incluye el trabajo en las empresas que están calificados para la demolición de la antigua casa parroquial. He comenzado abordar algunas de las diversas necesidades del resto de nuestras estructuras incluyendo la iglesia y otros edificios. Estamos haciendo una lista de prioridades junto con la ayuda de expertos. Pero debo decirle que la lista es un poco larga y los trabajos son costosos. También he comenzado a reunirme con algunos consultores litúrgicos para ver cuáles son nuestras necesidades dentro de la iglesia, incluyendo cosas como reemplazar los cojines de las bancas, evaluando la alfombra, analizando los soportes estructurales, etc... Se supone que Cuaresma es un tiempo cuando nos concentramos en cómo podemos crecer más cerca de Dios. Estamos ofreciendo varias oportunidades para esta Cuaresma, incluyendo hoy (domingo 1 de marzo) una exposición destacando los milagros eucarísticos ocurridos en la historia de nuestra iglesia. Esta exposición estará abierta de 8:30am – 5:00 p.m. En el salón parroquial. La admisión es gratuita. Es un recorrido auto guiado con grandes carteles que representan estos milagros. Estamos ofreciendo dos misiones Cuaresmal este año, una en español y otra en inglés. La misión en español comienza HOY en la noche 1◦ de marzo hasta el martes, en la iglesia, titulada "Llamados, renovados y Enviados" presentada por el Sr. José Juan Valdez inicia a las 7:30p.m. La misión en inglés será del 15 al 17 de marzo a las 7:00p.m. Presenta por el P. Martin Iott, OP.

Our parish will now be offering a Support Group for Marriages. The support group will be for intentional, committed marriages. Our marriages are committed because we are determined, with God's help, that our marriages be permanent. Our marriages are intentional, in that we intend, with God's
help, to work through whatever obstacles threaten our marriages.
The support group will use a 12-Step model. The 12-Step Programs were founded by Bill Wilson in 1935. Bill W. was greatly influenced by a Jesuit priest, Father Ed Dowling. He was so influenced by Fr. Dowling that the 12-Steps appear very similar to the St. Ignatius Spiritual Exercises. Our Support Group for Marriages will start Thursday evening on March 12th at 5:45 PM before the 7:00 PM Mass, and continue on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month. Please sign up in the Narthex right after Mass. Contact Dcn. Bill Hartman at the parish office for additional information.
