Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

First Reading: Isaiah 55:6-9

The prophetic words in today’s reading were spoken during the Isra-elites’ exile in Babylon. Earlier, the prophet had proclaimed that God was looking mercifully upon them and would soon free them. In to-day’s reading, the prophet points out that they now have a window of op-portunity and should take advantage of God’s willingness to forgive. Second Reading:

Philippians 1:20-24,27 For four weeks, our second reading will be taken from Paul’s letter to the Philippians. When Paul wrote this letter, he was in prison for preaching the Gospel and he faced the possibil-ity of execution. A person in those circumstances tends to think long thoughts about death, and death is what Paul is wresting with in today’s passage.

Dear Friends, I am deeply indebted to our parishioners who attended the meet-ing a week ago to find ways and means to help support our brothers and sisters reeling under the effects of the hurricane and earthquake. The immense and immediate needs of our peo-ple should inspire us to reach out generously in the best tradi-tions of our nation. As a start, we are working closely with the efforts made by St. Vincent de Paul society in Houston, Texas. Our CTK conference is coordinating the relief efforts from our parish. This is the communication that we had with the conference in Houston.

As we discussed, peoples immediate emergency needs are being met at this time. You mentioned you are probably looking at a 2-3 week time frame for the donations to be collected and shipped here. That timing is perfect because at that point we will be moving into a recovery mode. By this, I mean people have already finished the remediation process and clearing their homes of their ruined belong-ings. They will want to begin to reset up their homes. For this reason, I suggest the following new items: bed linens (sheets, comforters, blankets, bedspreads), pillows, bath towels, New undergarments and shoes. Clothing Vouchers will be convenient too.

We will be doing a second collection on the first of October for the victims of Hurricanes in our nation. I know it is a weekend dedicated to Catholic Education. Our Religious Education and School can contribute that share of their income to fund relief efforts for the month of October. We will send 50% of what we collect to the diocesan effort and the rest we will keep here at CTK to fund the efforts made at the local level to help the victims of the hurricane.

THANKSGIVING MASS FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS

Saturday, September 30, 10:00am

Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ would like to celebrate and honor all

individuals involved in physical, mental, and spiritual healthcare

with a multicultural Thanksgiving Mass for Healthcare Providers.

The 2nd annual Healthcare Thanksgiving Mass will be held on Sat-

urday, September 30 at 10:00 am.

An update on the Ministry Center: Abatement of the building continues. For those unfamiliar, this involves the safe removal of hazardous materials such as asbestos and lead. The contrac-tor has now removed all the interior flooring and plaster and has found a few surprises. Surprises are generally a good thing but not in construction. In this case, the surprise is another layer of unseen material, which will need to be removed. This will take a few more days, and dollars, to address. Thank you for your support and prayer.

To Change the world, we must be good to those who cannot repay us.”

Pope Francis

Pray for Our Sick Dear God, we place our worries in your

hands. We place our sick under your care

and humbly ask that you restore your servants to health again. Above all, grant us the grace to acknowledge your will and know that whatever you do, you do for the love of us.

Amen. Anne Madden, John Maciula
