Liturgy of the Word & Distribution of Ashes Mass and Distribution of Ashes Liturgy of the Word & Distribution of Ashes Liturgy of the Word & Distribution of Ashes Mass and Distribution of Ashes Liturgy of the Word & Distribution of Ashes in the Hall
February 26 Liturgy Schedule
Ashes are a symbol of penance made sacramental by the blessing of the
Church, and they help us develop a spirit of humility and sacrifice.
The ashes are made from the blessed palms used in the Palm Sunday
celebration of the previous year. Ashes are blessed with Holy Water and are
scented by exposure to incense. While the ashes symbolize penance and
contrition, they are also a reminder that God is gracious and merciful to those
who call on Him with repentant hearts. His Divine mercy is of utmost
importance during the season of Lent, and the Church calls on us to seek that mercy during the entire Lenten season
with reflection, prayer and penance.
Stop by after Mass the weekend of February 29 - March 1 and learn more about St. Martin’s Service Ministries and Organizations. It is in truly giving of ourselves that we grow closer to God. During this
Lenten season, find out about various ways to serve our Lord through serving our brothers and sisters.

St. John's Childcare Co-op is open for children 1 through 2 years of age. All children must be registered through our Parish Website smdpyl.org/childcare. Parent help is needed.
Sunday School is open for children 3 years through Kindergarten. Each lesson revolves around a scripture story with an emphasis on building community and igniting a fire in the hearts of our children for our Catholic faith. All children must be registered through our Parish Website smdpyl.org/sundayschool. Volunteers are always needed.
February 16 The Preschool, Preppy-K, and Kinder lessons will be held in the Church hall as we are celebrating Mardi-Gras and discussing our fast approaching Ash Wednesday.
Kid’s Highlight The 3-year-old children were asked to put together a giant puzzle. Little legs, feet and hands were draped on the puzzle and working together to create a masterpiece. Ian, Dominic and John slid to the front of the puzzle to figure out the image. They were silent at first as they were asked what the puzzled showed. On the puzzle was Jesus holding the children on his lap and embracing the small little people surrounding him. All was calm when seeing the finished image and beautiful life example.
Children's Liturgy of the Word (children's dismissal in Mass) open for Children 1st through 4th grade. This ministry is a continuation of the Mass with a kid-friendly message and setting. Registration is not required!
Pray, Hope and Don’t Worry—St. Padre Pio We love Jesus and we show him our love by following God’s commandments. This is how we can live holy lives. Jesus will help us live a holy life but we need to remain in Him and listen to his words. Let us put our love for Jesus in action this week by making good choices. Be a better listener to your parents. Turn off your favorite television show or stop playing your favorite video game. Choose to spend that time in prayer with God instead.
