April 1st, 2012 Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion Message from Father Peter Holy Week is here; are you prepared? This last week, as I visited afternoon religious education classes at Christ the King, one of the students asked me: when does Lent end? Lent ends with the beginning of the celebration of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday. The student then went on to comment that it would take a lot of work to complete her purple book on time. Whatever happened to those purple and black devotional books that were given out the Sunday before Lent began? Have you been keeping up, or are you giving up? How about the other things that we were going to do during Lent, or the things that we were going to give up? I must say, I am looking forward to Holy Thursday. It is one of my favorite days of the year. As we celebrate the Lord’s Supper, we recall two sacraments that were instituted by Jesus during that meal: Eucharist and Holy Orders. Lent sometimes seems long, and yes, I am looking forward to stepping away from the ambo again as I preach. So, get ready… Holy Thursday is coming soon. I even plan on using a prop while I preach this year. Yes, I will talk about the priesthood and the Eucharist. Can you explain the difference in our Catholic understanding of the Eucharist as compared to most Protestants understandings of communion? Do you know the difference between a Catholic priest and most Protestant ministers? I can say it is one word: SACRAMENT. Might we revisit the meaning of this word… ~Blessings, Fr. Message from Father Peter

Holy Week is here; are you prepared? This last week, as I visited afternoon religious education classes at Christ the King, one of the students asked me: when does Lent end? Lent ends with the beginning of the celebration of the Lord’s Supper on

Holy Thursday.

So, get ready…Holy Thursday is coming soon.

Peter

Palm Sunday commemorates the

triumphal entrance of Christ into Jerusalem (Matthew 21:1-9), when palm branches were placed in His path,

before His arrest on Holy Thursday and

His Crucifixion on Good Friday. It thus

marks the beginning of Holy Week, the

final week of Lent, and the week in which Christians celebrate the mystery of their salvation through Christ's Death and His

Resurrection on Easter Sunday.

It is that simple. This time’s topic (by request): saints.

Christian Mother’s / Women gathering… April 22nd, 1:30pm at SJC. For some time now I have wanted to get the women of the cluster together to talk about the spirituality of women, and what it means to be a woman in today’s culture. Some people think I am nuts. Maybe…however, I do care about the women of this cluster, and I want to hear from them. Our con-versation will then give life to our current Christian women’s groups. Please come and join in the conver-sation (small group sharing encouraged, large group sharing optional). ~Fr. Peter
