  • Acts 18:24-28Now a Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by birth, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus; and he was mighty in the Scriptures. This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, being acquainted only with the baptism of John; and he began to speak out boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. And when he wanted to go across to Achaia, the brethren encouraged him and wrote to the disciples to welcome him; and when he had arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace, for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

  • 4. A Well Trained ManActs 18:25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, being acquainted only with the baptism of John;

Apollos was mighty in the Scriptures, but he had also been instructed in the way of the Lord

Deuteronomy 8:6 "Therefore, you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him.

Isaiah 9:7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from then on and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.

  • 5. A Zealous ManTitus 2:11-14 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

Are we fervent in Spirit, serving the Lord? Are we zealous for the Gods Glory?

  • 5. A Zealous ManRevelation 3:14-19 "To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says this: 'I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. 'So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. 'Because you say, "I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing," and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. 'Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.

  • 6. A Bold ManActs 18:26a And he began to speak out boldly in the synagogue

Boldness Required, All others need not apply

Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.

Acts 14:3 Therefore they [Paul and Barnabas] spent a long time there speaking boldly with reliance upon the Lord, who was testifying to the word of His grace

  • John WesleyGive me one hundred preachers who fear nothing but sin and desire nothing but God, and I care not whether they be clergymen or laymen, they alone will shake the gates of Hell and set up the Kingdom of Heaven upon Earth.17031791

  • 7. A Humble ManActs 18:26b But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

The highly educated, well trained, bold and eloquent Alexandrian and the two tent makers

    Apollos was a humble man

Notice the maturity of Aquila and Priscilla

  • 8. A Helpful ManActs 18:27 And when he wanted to go across to Achaia, the brethren encouraged him and wrote to the disciples to welcome him; and when he had arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace

Are we a helpful, or are we a hindrance?

Acts 20:35 "In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

  • 9. A Powerful ManActs 18:28 For he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

This Educated, Eloquent, Mighty, Well Trained, Zealous, Bold, Humble, and Helpful Man was used by God in a powerful way

Apollos wasnt powerful because of who he was, Apollos was powerful because of Gods work in his life.

  • 9. A Powerful Man1 Corinthians 3:3-7 For when one says, "I am of Paul," and another, "I am of Apollos," are you not mere men? What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one. I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth.

We tend to look to gifted people rather than to the Lord who gifted them

  • 9. A Powerful Man1 Corinthians 4:7 What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?

Your gifts, talents, skills and abilities are given to you, not to bring glory to you, but to bring Glory to God and to advance His Kingdom on earth.

We all have different giftings. What we have is not nearly as important as what we do with what we have.
