SACRAMENTS
Anointing of the Sick
The special grace of this Sacrament offers the Lord’s
healing strength, peace and courage to anyone who is
seriously or chronically ill, hospitalized or about to undergo
surgery. Please contact the Parish Office if you wish to
have someone anointed.
Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated twice a month:
the first and third Saturday of the month at 11:00 a.m. (some
exceptions due to Holy Days and liturgical celebrations).
Please call the Parish Office to register for the program
and to set a date for the Baptism.
Marriage
Archdiocese of Chicago guidelines for marriage
preparation ask that a minimum of six months be set aside for
preparation for marriage. No firm date for a wedding will be
set until the conclusion of the couple’s first meeting with
the parish minister. At least one of the engaged persons
(or their parents) must be a registered and active parishioner
of St. Monica. No Sunday weddings are scheduled.
Ministry to the Sick/Homebound
If you or a family member are in a local hospital or are
homebound and would like to have a visit from a priest,
please call the Parish Office to make arrangements.
Ministers of Care are also available to bring Communion to
those who are confined at home and are unable to
attend Mass, either temporarily or on a continual basis.
Please call the Parish Office to schedule a visit.
Reconciliation (Confession)
Monday — Friday before the morning Mass (please ask for
a priest in the sacristy)., Saturday from 3:00 to 3:50 p.m.
Individual confessions available by appointment.

A LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR
“Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright...”
I am sure that Christians all over the world know
the lyrics of this Christmas carol. These words put
us into a Christmas mood, but first and foremost,
they comfort us. Although we are still suffering
due to the Covid19 pandemic, we can still
come together and celebrate the birth of Jesus
in limited and separate ways. This Christmas is
different - as many things are different these
days. Nevertheless, Emmanuel has been born.
Many of our daily activities have been
relegated to virtual reality - schools, jobs
and even church activities. However, we have
hope that things will get better soon. That hope
is being brought by baby Jesus who wants to
find room in our hearts. Are we ready to
welcome Him? I believe that we are ready.
During these long months we have
experienced so many
difficult situations. We have
struggled with many aspects
of our lives. Many of us
have lost our loved
ones as a result of
the virus. Moreover,
we have not been
able to see our
family members and
friends in person.
Nonetheless, these
obstacles will not prevent us
from welcoming our Lord and celebrating that
wonderful mystery of the Incarnation. The reality
of God becoming man assures us of God’s love
for us. That truth of His love is clearly visible right
now in our suffering which brings us closer to
Jesus who suffered greatly for our sins.
Obviously, we would rather take that negative
aspect of life away, but suffering is a part of our
human experience. Therefore, let us look on our
lives through the lenses of faith and follow Jesus,
who out of love and obedience to Father’s will,
took that pain upon his shoulders
and redeemed the humankind.
My friends, I pray that baby Jesus will bring you
joy and peace. Hence, let us open our minds
and hearts to Jesus. He comes to us as
a vulnerable child who makes a difference in all
of our lives. As we celebrate this holiday season
in very uncomfortable times, let us remember
God’s words from the Book of Psalms,
“Those who sow in tears will reap with cries of
joy. Those who go forth weeping, carrying
sacks of seed, Will return with cries of joy,
carrying their bundled sheaves.”
