Most people in Poland are Christians, and we celebrate Christmas in tradtional way. Christmas Eve is on 24th of December. This is very special and very important day for polish people. In the morning all of the family dress the Christmas tree. We put baubles, lights, sweets and colorful handmade chains.

Than parents make traditional Christmas dinner. We make the table and we put white tablecloth and hay under it as a symbol of little Jesus born on it. We add one chair for unexpecting person. there are twelve dishes (as a symbol of twelve apostles) for example soups like mushroom soup, fish soup or beetroot soup at the table. We have also fishes like carp and herring serving in diffrent ways and polish dumplings with cabbage and mushrooms.

Before dinner we pray to God and then we share the wafer and wish „Merry Christmas” to each other. Then we sit at the table and consume dishes. After dinner it is a boxing time. All of children are happy, because they open their gifts. It is also a good time to have a coffee and cakes. Especialy for cheesecake, applepie or poppy seed cake.
