Most of us have more than one job to do, and we never seem to have enough time. We are workers, volunteers, parents, friends, and most of us are more than one thing at a time. But which of these is the work of God? We seldom view our ordinary work as being the work of God. We may think that we have to be ministers or priests, missionaries or charity workers, engaged full-time in works formally identified as being “God’s work.” But everything we do with a faithful heart and with love for others is God’s work. We each have our own role to fill in the world, and many gifts are necessary. We cannot always see the direct connection of our daily work to the plan of God. But we trust and we believe that God leads us to do what is needed, where it is needed. What is “God’s work?” “This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent” (John 6:29). Page 3: Church of Our Lady of Angelsourladyofangelsparish.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/... · The reasons for the reduction of masses are based on a letter that Bishop Di Marzio sent to all

Dear Parishioners,

Back in May, on the Solemnity of Pentecost, I informed you of some changes in the Sunday Mass

schedule that will take effect on Sunday, September 9th.

The reasons for the reduction of masses are based on a letter that Bishop Di Marzio sent to all pas-

tors a year ago.

In the letter, the Bishop noted his concerns for the declining number of priests and advancing age

of many of us priests. He also stated his concern that the seating capacity of the church should be a factor

in deciding the number of masses so that, and I quote, “Our hope is to encourage more vibrant, joyful

celebrations of the Eucharist, bringing larger numbers of the faithful together to give thanks and praise to

God.”

Since 600 people would be considered one half of our church’s seating capacity, we don’t ever

have that many people at one mass on a Sunday. In fact, our total attendance on a good weather Sunday

from Columbus Day through Memorial Day is 1,100. We could actually fit the entire attendance at one

mass with everyone seated!

I realize that the new schedule: Saturday at 5:00P.M., Sunday at 9:00A.M., 10:30A.M. Spanish,

and 12:00P.M. will be an adjustment for some, but my brother priests and I hope that the sacrifice we all

put into the adjustment will bring about all the Bishop’s hopes.

Thank you for your understanding.

Let’s pray for each other, Msgr. Kevin B. Noone
