Dear Friends in our Lord Jesus: As I write this message my friend Buster is at the pet spa enjoying a good wash, trim and nail clip. Because Saint John the Baptist and Saint Joseph are in an Area Catholic Community together, I am finding it difficult to spend adequate time in both. I only have Mass at Collegeville once a month and that means that I am an absentee pastor. Saint John the Baptist has changed its Mass time to Sunday morning at 8:30. I have spoken with the parish council here in Saint Joseph as well as the Liturgy Director and, in order to correct the prob-lem, it seems best to change the Mass times in Saint Joseph, so that I can preside in Collegeville most Sundays. We will have Sunday masses at 8:30 am and 10:30 am beginning the first week of Easter. There will be no change to the Saturday Mass. The reason for the change to an 8:30 a.m. mass is that Fr. Ian works as a Faculty Resident at St. John’s University. Many Sat-urday evenings Fr. Ian is up until 1 or 2 a.m. Getting here for an 8 o’clock would not work but 8:30 seems to be just fine. I know that any time there is a change in Mass times people get frustrated or angry. But in order to have Pastor equity these changes seem to be the best solution. I hope that you will all pray for an easy transition. At Saint John the Baptist parish, the parish council has been dis-cussing the increase in Sunday attendance by 19 % and in collec-tion an increase by 14 %. These statistics are important as we look to the future Summer schedule. Again, I ask for patience and understanding as we make the best possible choices for the parish. I ask you all to pray for greater faith and patience for the parish.

Fr. Jerome Tupa, OSB, Pastor

Caregiving and Care Partner Support Group Caregiving involves many challenges and often the need to master new skills. As a caregiver you may need to develop new ways of relating to family members and you may have to make some difficult decisions. Often the the greatest challenge is taking care of yourself. The Caregving Support Group meets monthly and is an opportunity to meet other caregivers and discover new ways to care for yourself as a caregiver. The next meeting is Monday, March 2 from 12:30-2:00 in the Parish House Meeting Room.

Gospel Reflection for February 23rd

The Lord is Kind and Merciful!

These words from the Response for the Mass, set the tone for the readings. In the first reading, the last words are “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” In the Gospel, Jesus tells us to love our enemies, and pray for those who harm or persecute us. He also reminds us to reach out to those who cannot necessarily re-pay us with kindness. “Be perfect as your heavenly Father is per-fect.” This is a call to holiness – to be the best person we can be.

This week we also have ASH WEDNESDAY, the beginning of the season of Lent. During these weeks we are asked to practice something extra in the areas of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. What extra prayer can you do as a family? What sacrifice in the area of food or entertainment can you make? How can you reach out to the poor?

Take time this week to think about these questions and listen to what God may be calling you to do for Lent this year.

Sister Betty Larson, OSB, Pastoral Ministry

We will focus on the words: “NO GREATER LOVE.” The parish retreat day will take place on Saturday, March 7th from 1:00-5:00 pm, ending with a light soup supper. Reservations are requested. Please RSVP by calling the faith formation office, leav-ing your name, phone number and number attending or by filling out the RSVP form found in Church and Heritage Hall. The retreat day will take place in Heritage Hall.

Thank you for accompanying the candidates as they approach the Sacrament of Confirmation. First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion

The children and families met this Saturday as immediate prepara-tions are well underway for reception of the sacraments. Please pray for the children who will receive these sacraments for the first time in the spring. You are invited to draw a name or names of children from the bas-kets located at the entrance of church.
