THE DEEP END: We should like to see Jesus Those poor Greeks. Did you notice that they never actually get to meet Jesus? At the start of today s gospel some Greeks who are followers of Jesus come to Jerusalem. They are travellers, outsiders, and would like to meet Jesus in person. But when Philip and Andrew relay the request, Jesus begins to talk about how his hour is coming. It is the last we hear of the Greeks, who disappear from the story altogether. But they are important nonetheless. Firstly, they indicate that word about Jesus is spreading, that in the words of the Pharisees, the world has gone after him More importantly, they prompt Jesus to reveal that, when his hour comes, he will draw all peopleto himself. In the space of a few short verses, we go from a brief mention of a group of foreigners seeking Jesus, to Jesus making it crystal clear that his saving mission is for all people, of all nations, both Jews and Gentiles – including those Greeks! There is no suggestion from Jesus that some groups are in and others out All are included. All are invited. All are welcome. I remember once hearing someone describe their home as a domestic church, a place of indiscriminate welcome As we continue our journey through Lent, and soon into Holy Week, let us listen carefully to these words of Jesus. He came for all. He wishes to draw all people to himself. Are our churches, parishes, communities and homes open to all, outsiders included? Are they places of welcome and inclusion, where all who enter experience God s love?

Another memorable week in the history of the Parish. Our Communion classes had their first penance and have decorated the Church with art work that tells of their indi-viduality and faith journey. On Sunday the Confirmation Children showed their growing maturity as they participated in the 10.00am Mass in different roles and ministries. They are a credit to their schools and teachers. Nurse Ciara Ni Muruchu read the Bishops statement Our Common Humanity at all Masses about the right to life. A number of people volunteered to do the Life Canvass The Parish Team, the Liturgy Teams, the Family Mass Team had their meetings to prepare all the ceremonies for Holy Week and Easter. Many ministries, teams, choirs and individ-uals contribute in so many ways that a lot of practice and co-ordination is required. Of course on Saturday we had our sec-ond opportunity at Ministry reflection and it was again a great success. We finished with a prayer from Sunday Mass that reminds us that we all share in the Royal PriesthoodSeventy six people have availed of the ministry mornings this Lent.

Our forgiving God Anyone who loves her/his life loses it; anyone who hates her/
his life in this world will keep it for the eternal life. At first
glance that statement from Christ in this Sunday s Gospel is
hard to take. But it is God s wisdom and we must listen to it.
It s really about our priorities. If our priorities are all just about
the here and now and our own gratification we will lose every-
thing. If we set our sights on what God wants for us we will
gain far more than we ever imagined possible. And what God
wants for us is love, peace, joy, freedom, full life - all of which
can only be gained by giving ourselves fully to one another.
Marriage and family life are the two great schools for learning
self-giving. In marriage each person has to deliberately choose
what is good and best for their life together. In family life par-
ents especially have to constantly give of themselves. That is
how people grow to maturity.
Balally Family Resource Centre at The Scout Den is hosting a Coffee Morning on WEDNESDAY 21ST MARCH from 10 am to 12 noon In Aid of Médecins Sans Frontiéres/Doctors Without Borders. The funds raised will go towards supporting the work with the Rohingya People of Myanmar – the most persecuted people in the world. Your support for this worthy cause is greatly appreciated. All Welcome
Wells for Zoeare attempting to put together something that might encourage people to help fund a tree planting project into the future, in Malawi. They are linking with the Bishop and diocese of Mzuzu to encourage about 700,000 Catholics and through them
about 1.2 million others that there is money in planting trees Planting trees is a direct route out of poverty for the poorest Malawians, as there is a real market for timber in Malawi which is almost totally deforested as are the countries bordering on it. People might call this a no-brainer saving people and the Planet. To keep it simple the ask is just €1 per student to help save the Planet. With a single Euro can we can support a community to grow 10 Firewood Trees. Other trees like forestry and fruit may cost one euro per tree. Maybe it s a big ask but we all need to think seriously about Climate Change. Many schools have a GREEN FLAG project. Maybe these schools might like to be involved Maybe you could contact your old school, or anyone you know with links or access to schools. I think this is an amazing project do check it out at [email protected] Christina Lynam 0861035090
