Reflections ~ Reflexiones GGoossppeell:: JJoohhnn 44::55--4422 oorr 44::55--1155,,

1199bb--2266,, 3399aa,, 4400--4422 In this wonderful story from John's Gospel, Jesus gives the Samaritan woman at the well the "living water" of truth. Though a foreigner, she is hospitable to Jesus and honest with him. In return, he chooses to reveal to her the truth about his identity. The woman rushes off to tell everyone the good news that the Messiah has come. And she is so convincing that the Samaritans come to see Jesus and to believe in him. 1.) So many people are searching for and "thirsting for" the right answers to life's questions. Will you share with them the "living water" of truth that you have received from Jesus? How?

JJuuaann 44::55--4422 oo 44::55--1155,, 1199bb--2266,, 3399aa,, 4400--4422

A well-known priest started off a parish mission holding up a hundred-dollar bill. He asked, "Who would like this hundred-dollar bill?" Hands started going up. He said, "Let me do this." He crumpled the bill up and asked, "Who wants it now?" More hands were in the air. "Well, what if I do this?" and he dropped it and ground it into the floor with his shoe. He picked up the creased and dirty bill. "Anyone still want it?" All hands were raised. "My friends, you have learned a valuable lesson. This bill is still worth one hundred dollars. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We may think we are worthless. But you will never lose your value in God's eyes. Whether you are dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to God." Copyright (c) 2010, World Library Publications. LLiivviinngg SStteewwaarrddsshhiipp NNooww "A man turning from an evil life is bound to be rendered desperate by the knowledge of his sins, if he does not know how good God is, how kind and gentle, and how ready to forgive." --Saint Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153)

We hear today of God’s unrelenting pursuit of us. Our readings tell stories of God’s intense desire to share the divine life with us. From Exodus, we see how God shows endless persistence and compassion, even to those who grumble against God, or seem to have forgotten God. From the Gospel of John, we hear of how Jesus, in his extended conversation with the Samaritan woman, gives her dignity, names uncomfortable truths, and gradually leads her into a new path of faith. We can have confidence that as we bring our own confusions, fears, and failings to God, we may receive God’s mercy and forgiveness. God always persists and continually finds new ways to invite people into unity with God. As Paul describes in Romans, in the cross we see how God will go to any length to demonstrate the depth and breadth of divine love. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

RREETTRROOUUVVAAIILLLLEE This Christian ministry is responsible for providing the tools to help save many tens of thousands of marriages and families over the last forty plus years. The program consists of a weekend experience followed by a series of post weekend sessions. Epiphany wants to make our parishioners and visitors aware of this family saving program. About 50% of married couples are likely to need help at some point. Retrouvaille is NOT group therapy and couples are not asked to share their problems or story with anyone else. The program focuses on teaching communication skills between a husband and wife. Couples are guided through the weekend by three presenting couples and a Catholic priest. The program is open to those of all faith traditions as well as those with no faith beliefs. You may find more information at: www.helpourmarriage.org/ Brochures with registration information are available in the parish office. San Francisco Weekend date is: August 28 – 30, 2020.
