Gospel: luke 17: 11-19 In this story of a miraculous healing, ten lepers cry out to Jesus for help. In Jesus' time, lepers were outcasts of society. Jesus tells them to go show themselves to the priests, who will witness their healed condition and allow them back into society. Only one leper, a Samaritan, returns to Jesus to praise and thank God. This man is not a Jew but a foreigner. Jesus points out that the Samaritan leper has gained something far more important than a physical cure; he has gained his eternal salvation. 1.)Did you ever wonder why the other nine lepers did not return to thank Jesus? Try to think of some reasons: one may have hurried back to his family; another may have meant to thank Jesus, but got busy with other things and forgot. Can you think of some other reasons? Do you always thank someone for a gift? Why or why not? How do you do it?

Evangelio: lucas 17: 11-19 En los tiempos de Jesús, los leprosos eran los marginados de la sociedad. En el cuento de la curación milagrosa, diez leprosos le piden a Jesús que los curen. Él así lo hace y les pide que vayan donde los sumos sacerdotes para que puedan ser testigos de su curación y les permitan reintegrarse a la sociedad. Sin embargo, uno sólo regresó. Éste leproso, a pesar de no ser judío volvió para darle las gracias y alabarlo. Jesús nos enseña enton-ces que este leproso Samaritano no se ganó solamente la curación física sino algo mucho más importante: su salvación eterna. 1.) ¿Alguna vez te has preguntado porque sólo regreso uno de los nueve leprosos para agradecer a Jesús? Puede que sean muchas razones: que uno se haya entretenido con su familia, quizás otro realmente pensó en regresar pero estuvo ocupado y se olvidó. ¡Quién sabe qué razones hayan tenido! De la misma manera, ¿Siempre agradeces cuando alguien te da un regalo? ¿Por qué si o por qué no? ¿Cómo lo haces?

Pastor’s Message: The Eucharistic Liturgy – Helping Parishioners prepare for, enter fully into, and reflect upon their experience for the Eucharistic and the other sacraments. Understanding that the liturgy is the “front and summit” of our lives heightens our awareness of the importance of preparing and celebrating it well. Reflecting on images, themes, and elements of our sacramental life and assisting people in connecting their experi-ence of the liturgy with their daily lives, are essential to whole com-munity catechesis. Such reflection invites people to embrace disci-pleship. When people talk about what they find most meaningful in faith formation for adults, families, or children, the most common feeling they first express is excitement about their growing understanding of the Sunday Mass and making connection between our prayer together at the Sunday assembly and daily life is terribly important; in fact, this dimension of faith formation is vital. Mensaje del Párroco: La Liturgia de la Eucaristía-Ayudando a nuestra comunidad parroquial a prepararse para sentir, experimentar y reflexionar acerca de la Euca-ristía y los otros sacramentos. Cuando comprendemos que la liturgia es la cumbre de nuestra existen-cia, entonces nos damos cuenta que tan importante es el estar bien preparados para recibirla apropiadamente. En la Catequesis Comunita-ria, reflexionar en imágenes, temas o elementos de nuestra vida sacra-mental ayudan para que las personas podamos conectar la liturgia con nuestra vida diaria. Al experimentar esa reflexión personal, la invitación para convertirnos en discípulos de Dios se nos presenta. Lo primero que comentan las personas que asisten a las clases de formación de fe para adultos, niños o para familias es lo maravilloso que se siente el poder entender la misa cada vez más y la importancia de sentir la conexión que existe cuando rezan juntos en comunidad durante la celebración y sus vidas diarias. It’s that wonderful time of year again! On Saturday, November 2nd, we will be having our 16th Annual International Night Dinner. During

this evening, we have an all you can eat menu of: African-American , Chinese, Filipino, His-panic, Irish cuisine and dessert! In addition to the great food, we have amazing entertain-ment from different cultures. This is one of the wonderful ways we celebrate our diversity. This is the parish’s largest fund-raiser. All Souls Remembrance Mass 2013: Epiphany’s Grief Ministry invites you to our Memorial Mass in memory of all who have died since All Souls Day, 2013. The Mass will be on Saturday, November 2nd at 3:00pm, in the church. Join us in praying for our de-ceased loved ones.

October Mass Count: Throughout the month of October we will be conducting our annual October Mass Count. This is the time of year where we count our parishion-ers (men, women and children) as a means of measuring the attendance in the parishes from year to year. These statistics are used for report-ing to the various offices in Rome and others. Some funding and help is based on these statis-tics so we hope you will make yourself counted! The results will be reported in November. Second Collection: Dear Parishioner there has been a change in in the Second Collection for October 20th. The Second collection is for World Mission Sunday. Sorry for any inconvenience. On Sunday, Octo-ber 27th the 2nd collection will be for Parish Athletic Program.

World Mission Sunday:

Every year, something special happens on the next-to-last Sunday of October—the world unites. On World Mission Sunday,

Catholics of the world unite at Mass to recom-mit ourselves to our vocation, through Bap-tism, to be missionaries. As we pray and respond on World Mission Sunday here at home, we are replicating what is also taking place in every parish and chapel all over the world. Our brothers and sisters in the Missions themselves offer their prayers and sacrifices so that others may come to know Jesus! In a world where so much divides us, World Mission Sunday rejoices in our unity as mis-sionaries! And it provides an opportunity to support the life-giving presence of the Church among the suffering and the poor in more than 1,150 mission dioceses throughout the Devel-oping World.

Domingo Mundial de las Misiones: Algo muy especial pasa cada año para el penúltimo domingo de octubre: el mundo se une. En el Domingo Mundial de las Misiones, todo el mundo se une durante la misa para reafirmar el compromiso a nuestras vocacio-nes para ser misioneros a través del Bautismo. Al orar y responder al llamado de las Misiones Mundiales aquí en casa, estamos replicando lo que se está haciendo en cada iglesia y capilla de todo el mundo. Del mismo modo, nuestros hermanos misio-neros ofrecen sus oraciones y sacrificios para que los que no conocen a Jesús lo lleguen a conocer. En un mundo tan dividido, el Do-mingo de las Misiones nos une a todos como misioneros. Nos da la oportunidad de apoyar la viva presencia de la iglesia entre los pobres y los que más sufren en mas de 1,150 misio-nes en los países en desarrollo de todo el mundo.
