TODAY IS SOCIAL SUNDAY

Come down to Buchanan Hall following the 9:15 am Mass for donuts, coffee, juice and fellowship. All Saint Andrew Kim members are

welcome to join us before the 11:15 am Mass.

THE IRISH VOTE ON LEGALIZING ABORTION

MAY 25

Currently the Irish Constitution acknowledges the right to life of any unborn child as equal to that of the

mother, and effectively bans abortion. On Friday, May 25th, the citizens of Ireland

will vote on amending their Constitution to permit abortions. The government has promised that if the constitution is amended to allow abortion, they will immediately pass legislation permitting unrestricted abortion during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

So let's pray that through the intercession of Our Lady, Patroness of Ireland, the May 25th vote will be in favor of life. Between now and then, please remember Ireland in your prayers; a Rosary, a Memorare, or simply an extra Hail Mary.

All prayers are answered - Thank you.

Pastor’s Letter

HOW THE HOLY SPIRIT IS ACTIVE IN OUR LIVES

It has been rightly said that the Holy Spirit is closer to us than we are to ourselves. That may appear just a pious cliché, or perhaps even a little cryptic, but it expresses a profound reality in our relationship with God.

The Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Holy Trinity, is the eternal knowledge and love of the Godhead in Person. All of the workings of God ad extram – towards creation – involve the Holy Spirit’s action, just as that of the Father and of the Son. It is to the Holy Spirit, however, that is attributed both the inner manifestation of God’s true nature to the believer and access to God by the intelligent creature.

The imprint of the Holy Spirit in the human soul is, therefore, the principle of what makes human beings to be “in the image and likeness of God” (see Genesis 1:26). That means that beyond the ability of being self-aware, and endowed with rational intelligence and free will, human beings are also the only ones capable among all other creatures except the angels of knowing and of loving their own Creator. It follows, then, that the inner life, what we call the spiritual life, can only be understood, entered upon, and nurtured by the action of the third Person of the Blessed Trinity.

Since we can only truly know God through the inner enlightenment of the Holy Spirit, it also follows that we can only know ourselves fully, having been created in the divine image and likeness, if we are open to and actively cultivate our relationship with the Holy Spirit. Pope St. John Paul II once said that, God, in revealing Himself to Mankind, at the same time reveals Mankind to itself.

SCRIPTURE REFLECTIONS FOR NEXT SUNDAY, MOST HOLY TRINITY:

Deuteronomy 4:32-34, 39-10 The core affirmation attributed to Moses in this reading is that there is but one God, and that He has revealed himself through his involvement in our own history.

Romans 8:14-17 Unlike other creatures, even the angels, only humankind can enter by God’s own will and design into a personal relationship with God, as Father.

St. Matthew 28: 16-20 God wills to be known and loved by all people of every age and every con-dition. That is the basis of the divine command to all of us to “Go, … and make disciples of all na-tions.”

“I know in my heart that man is good. That what is right will always triumph. And there’s purpose and worth to each and every life.”
