Emmanuel – God Is With Us This fourth Sunday of Advent brings us very close to the great feast of Christmas when we celebrate the mystery of the Incarnation as God takes on human form. It is close in time to Christmas. It is also close to the meaning of Christmas with the emphasis on the nearness of God’s presence. Both the Isaiah reading and the gospel mention the coming of Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.” Jesus takes on human flesh in Mary through the work of the Holy Spirit. Joseph discerns God’s way for him and Mary in a dream. We know the nearness of God in the proclamation of the Word and in sacrament. We encounter Christ when we reach out to the least of our sisters and brothers. Take some time in this short time before Christmas to ponder the meaning of Emmanuel in your life. How do you experience God being with you?

Tom Krenik Emmanuel - Dios Está con Nosotros Este cuarto domingo de Adviento nos acerca mucho a la gran fiesta de Navidad cuando celebramos el misterio de la Encarnación cuando Dios toma forma humana. Está cerca de Navidad. También está cerca del significado de la Navidad con el énfasis en la cercanía de la presencia de Dios. Tanto la lectura de Isaías como el evangelio mencionan la venida de Emmanuel, que significa "Dios está con nosotros". Jesús se encarna en María a través de la obra del Espíritu Santo. José discierne el camino de Dios para él y María en un sueño. Conocemos la cercanía de Dios en la proclamación de la Palabra y en el sacramento. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means "God is with us." Matthew 1:23 There are so many members of our parish who minister in the variety of ministries that fall under Pastoral Care: Funeral Ministers, Funeral Luncheon team members, from donors to servers and dishwashers, Grief Ministry, Hospital and Home Communion Ministers, ministers to ECUMEN, the Villa and Augustana Care facilities, BeFrienders, the Widows Connection facilitators and creators of prayer shawls and quilts. All of these people are tangible signs of God with us 365 days of the year. As the Pastoral Minister here I am so grateful to all of you. You are a gift to so many of God's people and I wish you all a blessed and peaceful feast of Christmas.

Hospital Ministry: Help Needed!

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me. Mt. 25: 35-36 Parishioners from Risen Savior, along with parishioners from Mary Mother of the Church and St. John the Baptist, visit Catholic patients at Fairview Ridges Hospital to pray with them and to bring them Communion. To be a Hospital Minister, a person needs to attend the training offered by the hospital. A training will be offered in January. If you are interested or would like more information about this ministry, please call Chris Sorensen or our Hospital Ministry Coordinator, Sue Price at (952) 440-4867. Cana Dinner 2020

The Cana Dinner is an enjoyable and enriching event for married and engaged couples. Our evening will include a bilingual prayer service with a blessing for all couples and a renewal of vows for those who are married, a delicious dinner, and a fun dance, all for only $85 per couple!
