Mastercam News
With the release of Windows 8, we would like to take the time to send you an important reminder.
Your Cimquest Team recommends Windows 7 as a standard operating system for the foreseeable future and does not recommend Windows 8. Windows 8 is designed as a hybrid Operating System which can run Desktops, Tablets/Touchscreens and Windows Phones. As an operating system for desktops PC’s running CAD/CAM Software, Windows 8
does not give the performance enhancement that would warrant a recommendation.
Windows 8 (64 bit) will only support Mastercam X7(coming release in the 1st quarter of 2013) and will not support running Mastercam X6 or earlier.
Please note that as of Mastercam X7, Windows XP and Vista will no longer be supported to run Mastercam. You must have Windows 7 (or later) to run this release. If you have any questions, please contact Cimquest Support at [email protected] or (732) 699-0400 ext. 1.
Thank you,
Cimquest Mastercam Technical Support Team

Mojo 3D Printing
Outsourcing a model can take days or weeks and can cost hundreds of dollars or more. Using an outside rapid prototyping facility leaves you open to delays if you are forced to wait behind large rapid prototyping projects and long production runs.
Mojo however, is able to produce quick, inexpen-sive functional prototypes made of ABSplus plastic, allowing you to see any possible
design flaws right away. With the Mojo 3D Printer right at your desk, making that small iteration to improve your concept model can be done in mere hours, taking weeks off of your design cycle.

What’s New In Mastercam - Lathe Enhancements
Improved Cutoff/Pickoff Operations
Mastercam X6 Lathe includes improvements to the cutoff and pickoff op-erations. Choose Toolpaths>> Misc Ops, >> Pickoff/Pull/Cutoff. To access this function. Note: You must have an updated post processor to use this function. Please contact your Cimquest Support for more information.
Use this dialog box to translate geometry
and create a part transfer operation from the main spindle to the sub spindle and/or a bar pull operation prior to a cutoff toolpath. You can choose to just create the geometry without creating any operation, or you can create the geometry and the follow-ing types of operations:
Pickoff, Bar pull, Cutoff
Pickoff, Cutoff
Pickoff
Bar pull
The following conditions must be met to use this function:
The red Insert Arrow must be in a Lathe machine group.
The machine group must have stock defined in a fixed spindle, or both spindles, and the chuck jaws defined for both spindles. If both spindles can move in Z, the spindle not containing stock will be assumed to be the pickoff spindle. If both spindles contain stock in this case, the right spindle is assumed to be the pickoff spindle.
A cutoff operation must exist in the currently active operation library.
For more details on using this function, please click the Mastercam Help button at the bottom of the dialog box.

Exporting G code as geometry from Cimco
Mastercam Tech Tip—Importing A Cimco Backplot DXF file
Sometimes we have G Code programs that don’t have CAD models. Cimco Editor Professional can import the Backplot geometry into Mastercam as a DXF file giving you a great start in modeling your file. Simply open an NC file in CIMCO
Once the posted NC file is open in the editor. Click Backplot Window to display the tool motion.
Click the indicated icon to save the motion as geometry. Specify the save location…
Open the new geometry file.
