Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, when an ill-equipped and outnumbered Mexican army defied all oddsto head off the French invasion of Mexico City. Although this victory was only a temporary setback for the French, it proved that the youngnation of Mexico was willing and able to defend itself. It’s credited to have provided Mexico with the confidence to persist and ultimatelyoverthrow the French in 1867, when Cinco de Mayo became a national holiday of great importance and great celebration. Cinco de Mayo conmemora la battalla de Puebla del 5 de Mayo de 1862 cuando el ejercíto Mexicano mal armado y superado en numero de com-batientes desafío las posibilidades de ganar la invasíon de las Francés en la ciudad de Puebla. Aun que la victoria solo fue un atraso temporal paralos Francés dio conocer que la joven nacion de Mexico estaba dispuesta y capaz de defenderse. Le dan credito a la battalla de a verle dado la con-fiansa para presistir y a final derribar los Francés en 1867, cuando el Cinco de Mayo se convirtio en un dia festivo nacional de gran importanciay celebracion.
