7.9 AuthenticationSingle Sign On ExperienceGoogle UserAccountActive Directory User Account

Password Free

2016 Citrix. With 7.9 FAS, my user can login to Gmail, via FAS and their Gmail account is associated with an AD account and they get access to their Win and Google apps via one, non-Windows account (Better UX). If the Gmail account is compromised, the company can disconnect the link between Gmail and Windows AD and the compromised Gmail account doesnt have access to business critical Windows apps. I think this is easiest to understand from how it works as well as security. The other nice part about this angle is the password free part, where the Gmail users only have to worry about their Google password and there is no additional password required to associate and authenticate to AD. Everyone needs an AD account or a mapping to an AD account to get their Win Apps, but the accounts can be generic/shared. 2014 Citrix. Confidential.

[Click] NetScaler uses the credentials and authenticates the user against the on premises active directory. [Click] If authentication is successful, the users logon request is forwarded onto StoreFront, which authenticates against Active Directory[Click] If authentication is successful, the users identity is sent to the delivery controller to generate a list of resources, which are sent back to the user and populated within Receiver or the web page. The user selects a resource. StoreFront and the Delivery Controller generate launch file with a logon ticket. [Click] Receiver executes the launch file and a connection is made to the VDA through Gateway. [Click] The VDA logs the user onto the machine by authenticating the credentials from the ticket to Active Directory 2014 Citrix. Confidential.

2016 Citrix.[Click] Essentially, we are trying to have users authenticate through a 3rd party identity provider. Which means our users will not have an AD username and password. [Click] Because we logged onto our 3rd party identity provider, we utilize SAML to autologon to NetScaler, which has a SAML Trust configured for the 3rd party identity provider. [Click] However, because XenApp requires Active Directory accounts, users are getting challenged to authenticate to active directory, which the users do not have an account. We can easily configure a sync from the 3rd party identity data store to our active directory data store, but users will still not know what account or password to use. 2014 Citrix. Confidential.

NSG RedirectSigned SAMLFederated Login to XenApp/ XenDesktopUser hits URL

2016 Citrix.Lee attempts to login to his Apps. The Netscaler does a redirect to the ID provider and the user logs into the ID provider.[Click] NetScaler has a SAML trust with the ID provider and accepts lees login[Click] At this point, the NetScaler has to do a pairing using an LDAP lookup between the userid at the ID provider, and the users AD account in your directory. This pairing is controlled by the admin but can optionally be simplified by syncing the two directories at the backend (not always practical).[Click] StoreFront is configured to talk via the Login Data Provider, to use the FAS (can be more than one), to authenticate the user. [Click] Smartcards can already be used to authenticate a user to AD and XenDesktop, so the FAS uses this model authorize the user. If one does not exist already, the FAS creates a virtual smartcard for the user and asks MS Cert Services to sign the virtual smartcard. [Click] The login is then passed to the Delivery Controller and the user is presented with their Apps and Desktops.[Click] When the user selects a Desktop or App, a new service within the 7.9 VDA called the credential plugin will then sign the user into the actual desktop session by verifying their credentials with the FAS.[Click] Finally, the secure ICA session is launched from the endpoint, to the VDA, via the NetScaler. 2014 Citrix. Identity

2016 Citrix. Before XenDesktop/Xenapp 7.9, Machine Creation Services required all disk reside on the same storage. Lets look at this closer[Click] First, if we use shared storage, our master OS disk will be stored on our shared storage. [Click] That master image is read only and used by our virtual machines running on a hypervisor. [Click] Because a single image is used for many machines, we create unique identity disks, which must be stored in the same location as the OS disk. [Click] And because the os disk is read only, all of the VM changes must be stored in a write cache or differencing disk, which like the identity disk, is stored in the same location as the master image. 2014 Citrix. Write Cache (RAM)(XenServer, Hyper-V, vSphere)Machine Creation Services 7.9

2016 Citrix.Lets look at our storage layout. WE have our OS master disk sitting on shared storage. Our virtual machines and write cache/differencing disks are storage on the hypervisor. Virtualizing desktops and applications can put a sizeable load on our I/O activity on the disk. This load, if it is too high, will degrade the performance of the virtual desktop. [Click] With the 7.9 release, each virtual machine can now include a RAM-based write cache, which will intercept the writes going to our disk-based write cache. All of the small I/O operations are performed in RAM, which is significantly faster than disk. As our RAM Based cache is consumed, the small writes are consolidated and written to the write back cache as 2MB blocks of data. [Click] And because this works within the virtual machine, it works on any hypervisor, including XenServer, Hyper-v and vsphere 2014 Citrix. Confidential.

2016 Citrix. The RAM-based cache helps us significantly reduce write IOPS. But what about read IOPS? Although they arent as detrimental to a VDI environment like write IOPS, they should still be managed appropriately. [Click] For environments utilizing XenServer, we can implement a RAM-based read cache on the hypervisor. The Read cache will locally cache the shared storage OS disk, removing read IOPS from shared storage. The read cache is at the hypervisor level, impacting all VMs, while the RAM-Based write cache is within each VM. 2014 Citrix. Confidential.

People are working from endpoints all over your network and via the internet, so when they are making Audio or Video calls, the traffic is hairpinning in and out of your DC. Also, because all of the AV processing is happening on your Virtual Desktop sin the DC, this can severely affect the scalability and density of your systems. 2014 Citrix. Confidential.

Yes we did. And it was like this. Does anybody know what this is? Yes, its an aftermarket DVD entertainment system in my car. It works, but it rattles a lot and has wires all over the place. Our solution had some advantages because it was cross platform on the endpoint and lowed Windows/Mac/Linux/Thin Clients, but we did have some compromises, like reduced functionality and we had to add our own controls to the UI, sometimes even needing to grey out options and add our own. That was sub-optimal.

Microsoft also had an optimisation, but it was like this (big screen in the back of the car). It had better functionality, but it was essentially a whole copy of Lync running on the endpoint, which was harder to manage and meant that you needed to have Windows PCs on the endpoint. Didnt support XenApp delivery, didnt support Office 365 S4B, needed Windows endpoints.30 2014 Citrix. Confidential.

#

Consider this scenario, where the two Skype for Business users are in different locations, so the audio-video traffic between them is sent over a WAN or Internet connection. One technique for ensuring the very best call quality is Packet Duplication, routing the audio-video traffic simultaneously over two network links. The net effect is much higher reliability than possible over a single link. This technique overcomes most packet loss and congestion issues. The NetScaler CloudBridge SD-WAN uses the packet that arrives first and discards the duplicate packet (assuming there is one, i.e. when there is no packet loss). Packet Duplication can even be used over a single network link if there is sufficient capacity. Sending every packet twice significantly reduces packet loss, thereby improving call quality.

Customer comments on v2 Optimization PackIts an amazing experience and one we want to roll it out into production as soon as possible. This will save us tens of millions of dollars and addresses our security needs.A very good experience. Weve tested both Windows and Macs. We tested with wireless and wired and also tested meetings on O365. We just wanted to give you positive feedback on your HDX Opt. Pack 2.0 for Skype for Business. We are getting very nice results.

Kudos to Citrix for working with Microsoft on this. The Optimization Pack has wowed us. It's pretty exciting. I've been able to do things that I've never been able to do.Our experience with 2.0.100 has been really good. This technology will help drive VDI adoption across our company. It will also result in a significant cost savings. We are now starting to pilot Office 365.
