Fayette Area Chamber of Commerce Donates to Tuscaloosa Storm Recovery Fund

The Fayette Area Chamber of Commerce donated $1,000 to the Tuscaloosa Storm Recovery Fund on Thursday, March 15, 2012. The check was presented to Mayor Maddox following a presentation the Mayor gave to the Fayette Area Chamber of Commerce about Tuscaloosa’s on-going tornado recovery. Mayor Maddox expressed his gratitude for the City of Tuscaloosa having a neighbor as supportive and generous as the City of Fayette. “Fayette holds a special place in my heart, and our family’s roots run deep in this wonderful community. The City is honored to accept the Fayette Chamber of Commerce’s donation of $1,000 to the City’s Storm Recovery Fund. It was touching and powerful, and just another example of how Alabamians stand together in our time of need. I also want to thank Mayor Ray Nelson and Probate Judge William Oswalt for their support, partnership and friendship on so many issues impacting our region.”

Mayor Maddox v. Mayor Holden Friendly Wager

This afternoon, Mayor Walter Maddox and Mayor “Kip” Holden, of Baton Rouge, LA, spoke about the challenges of disaster recovery as well as the upcoming BCS National Championship Bowl. Mayor Holden wagered Mayor Maddox three gallons of Raising Cane’s infamous “Cane’s sauce,” should LSU lose to Alabama. Raising Cane’s is a chicken restaurant started in Baton Rouge by an LSU alumnus, and is a love of Louisiana residents across the state. In return, Mayor Maddox has wagered three gallons of Alabama’s beloved Dreamland’s barbeque sauce. Mayor Maddox expressed his excitement about the game and how much it means to the citizens of Tuscaloosa. He also wishes everyone, whether you wear crimson and white or purple and gold, to have safe and enjoyable time.

Memorial Day Garbage, Trash, and Recycling Changes

The City of Tuscaloosa Environmental Services Department will change the start collection time for garbage, trash and recycling to 6:00 am during the summer months from Memorial Day through Labor Day. For the summer of 2012, the 6:00 am start time will be in effect from May 28, 2012 until September 3, 2012. After Labor Day, collections will resume at 7:00 am until the following Memorial Day. This change reduces the potential heat-related illnesses suffered by Environmental Services crew members during the summer months. This change only applies to those with City of Tuscaloosa curbside solid waste collection services, and not to those with private dumpster services or residents outside of the Tuscaloosa city limits. Please place your garbage carts, recycling bins and trash at the curbside by 6:00 am for collection between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Items placed out after 6:00 am may not be collected until the following scheduled collection day. Further, the City of Tuscaloosa Environmental Services Department will not be collecting garbage, trash or recycling on Monday, May 28, 2012 in observance of Memorial Day. Due to the holiday, collection will be delayed one day: Regular Monday routes will be collected on Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Regular Tuesday routes will be collected on Wednesday, May 20, 2012. Regular Wednesday routes will be collected on Thursday, May 31, 2012. Regular Thursday routes will be collected on Friday, June 1, 2012. If you have any questions, please contact Stacy Vaughn at 205-248-4900, or at [email protected].
