Mr. Bedner admitted he gets excited about the new plants he finds after scouring trade shows and nurseries. I go on a gut feeling about what I think the public will enjoy, he said. First on his list for spring 2015 is Digiplexis, a new hybrid that was created by crossing digitalis foxglove and a digitalis relative from the Canary Islands called isoplexis. Its a long-blooming, sun-lov- ing annual that is perfect for gardens here in Zone 6. Bed- ners carries two colors this sea- son. Illumination Raspberry has fuchsia-colored blooms lined in peach; Illumination Flame sports red and orange blooms. The plant looks much like a foxglove with bell-shaped flowers on 3-foot spikes. Digiplexis, Mr. Bedner noted, is the talk of the gardening world this spring. Mr. Bedner also favors a new begonia called Lucky Strike, which is good for hanging bas- kets. The flowers have yellow inner petals and peach outer petals that create a contrast to its dark green leaves. Then theres the anemone Fantasy Pocahontas. He said it is an easy-to-grow, hardy pe- rennial that gets covered with pinkish-purple double flowers and grows to be 18 inches tall. It blooms midsummer and con- tinues until frost. A new variety of the popular hydrangea this year is called LA Dreamin and has both pink and blue flowers. Its a reli- able bloomer as it sets buds on both old and new wood and grows to 5 feet tall and 5 feet wide. Theres also a new hydran- gea with exotic-looking black stems. One called Zorro has blue blooms; another called Ze- bra has white. Mr. Bedner noted that these need more sun- light than other hydrangeas. New for the vegetable gar- dener this season is a plant called Ketchup n Fries TomTatos. A potato plant and tomato plant are grafted to- gether and produce sweet cherry tomatoes above ground and white potatoes under- ground. Also new are Kalettes, a cross between Brussels sprouts and kale. The world would be abetter place, if I saw mybrothers face, is the firstline of the song, which leftthe crowd teary-eyed whenLogan played it at the Marchmeeting of the McKeesportArea school board. He re-ceived a standing ovation af-ter he finished.

Logan said it took himabout three days to write thelyrics and music.

First I did the melodyand then I thought of thewords, and they just came tome, Logan said.

We didnt really knowwhat he was doing, saidLogans dad, Gus Keller-mann. He wrote all thewords himself, he said. When Logan was finishedwith the song he asked hisfamily to come out to the sit-ting room, where he playedit for them, Mr. Kellermannsaid.

It demonstrates howdeep a love he has for hisbrother and his family, Mr.Kellerman said.

Logans mom, Lisa Keller-mann, called the song Abeautiful tribute to [Mat-thews] memory. Sheadded, Music is such ahealer.

Music runs in the Keller-man family. Ms. Kellermann

plays cello, sings andteaches strings at Yadco Mu-sic in North Versailles.Logans brother Shaun, 12,plays drums but is taking abreak to pursue his passionof playing baseball.

I think the song willtouch many people, Ms.Kellermann said.

Logan said the wordbrother in the song couldeasily be substituted for anyperson whom someone haslost, which is why many peo-ple can relate to it.

Logan has recorded thesong twice, once at the Mel-ody Shop in West Mifflin andagain at Duquesne Univer-sity, Ms. Kellermanns almamater. She said the track isbeing re-mastered at RedCaiman Studio in Pitts-burgh.

The Kellermanns are alsoworking with the MelodyShop to design labels forLogans forthcoming CD sin-gle, which will soon be avail-able online on websites likeCD Baby.

Logan also writes poetryand enjoys boxing in hisspare time. He boxes atOlympus Fitness in NorthVersailles, where Matthewalso trained.

He hopes to continue play-ing music.

When I get out of school,I want to have my own bandand play on the road, hesaid.

God gave Logan that tal-ent to share with the world,Ms. Kellermann said.

If I Saw My BrothersFace is being judged by apanel for the national PTAReflections competition. Awinner will be announced inJune.

Logan will receive hisstate PTA Reflections awardon April 19 at the Ambassa-dor Center in Erie and willreceive his local award May2 at Brentwood High School.

He is also scheduled toplay at the familys church,St. Elizabeth Ann Seton inNorth Huntingdon later thismonth.
