Desire to Succeed Melissa is the eldest of five children, from a single parent home. Due to her mother’s health issues she is the sole caregiver of her four younger siblings. During the most important years of her academic life, Melissa’s obligations at home began to cause set backs. As if things could not be any worse, Melissa and her family were evicted from their home, forcing them to live wherever they could. The Caring Ladies Assisting Students to Succeed Program (CLASS) surrounded Melissa with clothing, personal hygiene and support encouraging her to stay focused on her education. Perhaps the most amazing aspect of this story is that Melissa still found time to dream about a future career as a singer. With the help of CLASS Melissa was provided with transportation that allowed her to audition at a community college. CLASS helped her with clothing for her audition, and a makeover that gave her the confidence she needed to perform. CLASS volunteers went along side her to make sure she arrived on time looking her best. Melissa’s performance was a huge success, and she impressed the judging panel so much that she was awarded a full scholarship into the college music program. Sadly, Melissa felt her obligations at home outweighed your dreams of college therefore she chose to stay at home and help care for her family. Perhaps with your help and future funding CLASS would be able to give the support to Melissa and other young girls dreaming of pursuing their dreams and reaching their goals despite the roadblocks and challenges they face
