President’s Message
Dear Members:
We were so lucky to have the new Chief Of Police speak to our group. All of us in the Brandeis Rancho Bernardo Chapter wish him & all of our San Diego police officers to stay safe! Thank you to Remington Club & Jane Navas for a wonderful Dessert Buffet.
Please mark your calendar for our December program. It will be an honor to listen to Prosecutor Grasso give us details on how she prosecutes & puts the bad guys (& gals) in prison for their terrible attacks on children. Also Kim Cardoso will speak on how her staff takes care of the children through their medical exam & questioning by police.
Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
Linda

Dear Fellow Brandeisians,Today, I shared a framework for our future in a speech before a packed and attentive audience of faculty, students, staff, and alumni in Sherman Function Hall. Before beginning my talk, I asked for a moment of silence and reflection as we honor the blessed memory of the 11 congregants who died this past Shabbat in Pittsburgh, and thank and pray for the recovery of the public safety officers who bravely intervened. We are deeply shocked and horrified by the ugly bigotry and anti-Semitism that took place in Pittsburgh. We are committed to advancing the cause of reason, inclusion, and justice for all, which is the essence of what Brandeis stands for.
Sincerely,RonRon Liebowitz

CAN RESEARCH ON RADICALIZATION EVENTUALLY PREVENT TERROR ATTACKS FROM HAPPENING?
Yujiao “Sue” Su ’19 is working to answer that question as part of a team of paid student researchers with Brandeis’ Western Jihadism Project.Launched by politics professor Jytte Klausen in 2006, the Western Jihadism Project is housed inside a Brandeis computer laboratory and supports research on Al-Qaeda-affiliated terror networks in Europe, North America and Australia.Su, an undergraduate research analyst from Sichuan, China, works with her peers to catalogue information on thousands of terrorists and organize it into a custom-built database.“You know that these terrorist acts are happening all over the world and now you get to study this phenomenon,” said Su, who is also a Gateway Scholar. “The subject is sensitive because most people don’t have a substantive understanding of it, but when our team at Brandeis looks at terrorism we’re not merely looking at ideology. We want to know how this terrorist network is formed.”
