Clay Houses -50 points
Objectives:
• Students will create a house or store using the slab building technique.
• Students will add architectural details to their house.
• Houses must be at least 4 x 4 inches.
• All parts must be scored and slipped together.
• First roll out a slab using canvas, slab strips and a
rolling pin.

Instructions for building an irregular form: Put it on its side!
Instructions• 1. Make a template for the front and back
side of your house.
• 2. Roll out clay.
• 3. Cut out both the front and back side out of clay.
• 4. Let the clay dry so that it is stiff.
• 5. Cut out a long rectangle for the sides of the house.
• 6. Score and slip the sides to the front and back. Reinforce corners with coils.
• 7. Smooth with a sponge.
• 8. Cut out 2 large squares of clay and make the roof. Attach each side and cut off what you don’t need.
• 9. Cut out windows, add shutters, add doorknobs, curtains, etc.
• 10. Score and slip everything you add on.
• 11. Let dry
• 12. Fire and glaze. Fire again.
