Cleethorpes Town has come a long way in its relatively short history. Initially formed in 1998 as Lincolnshire Soccer School, it was the brainchild of former Grimsby Town player Tommy Watson. The team was an immediate success with both boys and girls across every age group and the club began to grow quickly.

In 2003, the club set up a flagship senior team. In the team's first season within the Lincolnshire League they secured a credible fourth place finish for which the foundations for the future were set. Now rebranded Cleethorpes Town, the club has redeveloped into an important community outlet. With almost 30 teams competing at every level of local and regional football, the Owls are one of the largest clubs in the area and still continues to expand in all areas. The excellent array of teams and high quality coaching saw the club awarded with Football Association Charter Standard Community Club Status thus further underlining the clubs commitment to providing high quality football coaching alongside enjoyment for youngsters.

The development and evolution of Cleethorpes Town Football Club has been spearheaded by the first team. With the arrival of a new manager during the 2010-11 season it saw the club who were languishing in the lower echelons of the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League go on to finish the season in an amazing third place finish. In addition, the club collected the Supplementary Cup by defeating Heckington United in the final at Sincil Bank. 2011-12 season saw us not only become champions of the Lincs League but also the Challenge Cup winners. Additionally the club was accepted into the NCEL. Our first season in the league saw us finish fourth in the table with some impressive victories along the way. It was a steep learning curve for the players, management and staff.

The 2013-14 started with a change of management and Marcus Newell was brought in. The season started off at a medium pace but a long unbeaten streak mean the Owls were top of the league at christmas. However, we had a slow slow to the new year and fell 7 points behind with only a handful of games remaining. With the pressure at its highest, others around us felt it most and we managed to secure the title with one game to go.

The club is determined to make further strides to improve and fulfil their immediate ambition of becoming North East Lincolnshire's most successful lower league football club.

16JAYDEN WHITEOwls No.1 Fan Talks To His Favourite Programme...

The excitement of the goal was however short lived as just eight minutes later Ford had leveled the game up in an exquisite move created by a great ball out wide and a delightful square ball by Stuart Cobb.

The half-time whistle was signaled just a short time later with the game all square and set up nicely for the second half.

Fans of both sides had barely chance to sit down for the second half before Ford was at it again and had Wisbech in front. Ford himself won a corner just 90 seconds into the half after his header was parried over the bar by Beattie. Then the corner was swung in and missed by the Owls defence and nodded home by Ford who peeled away in delight.

With the floodlights on, an exciting crowd, and both teams looking to push forward the match was set up for a final 40 minutes of magic.

Wisbech looked to further instill their advantage however both Ford and Cobb where caught in advanced positions and flagged for offside on more than one occasions.

The Owls on the other hand, even though looking for the equaliser struggled for final third penetration. Even after making a double substitution midway through the second half, this still continued. Louis Grant replaced Barlow up front and Daniel Grant replaced the tiring Richard Peck in the heart of the defence.

With the Owls pushing forward, it left gaps at the back and they where exploited by the counter attacks of Wisbech. Ford o n c e a g a i n n e a r l y capitalised on this but he skewed his header wide of the mark with just Beattie to beat following a wonderful cross from the left.

Cooper then missed a golden chance to test Jordan as he dragged a free-kick wide of the mark after expertly won by Richardson just 25 yards out in the centre of the pitch.

Then came a moment of brilliance from Luke Mascall as he sprinted 70 yards with the ball, beating three men in the process and he unleashed a rasping drive but it was well saved by the Wisbech shot stopper.

With less than 10 minutes left, Jordan was once again called into action as Oglesby un leashed a wonder fu l swerving 35 yard shot which was saved one hand at full stretch.

At the other end, as the clock ticked into injury time, Beattie had to be on guard, this time from Cobb as he shot powerfully towards the goal but Beattie had strong hands and clutched onto the drive.

With only seconds remaining and deep into injury time,

C o o p e r managed to break the last line of the Wisbech defence. He sprinted clear and smashed the ball into the back of t h e n e t . T h e s t r i k e r k n e w s t r a i g h t a w a y though that it had not counted as he s a w t h a t t h e linesman on the near side had his

flag raised signally that Cooper was in an offside position.

Moments later, the referee blew his whistle to signal the end of the Owls FA Vase journey this season. A great team spirit and fantastic support throughout the campaign saw three brilliant victories in previous rounds but this was just one step too far.

THE CONTENTS

Cleethorpes Town suffered their first defeat in 12 matches on Saturday as they were dumped out of the FA Vase at the hands of Wisbech town 2-1. The Owls led through a Jack Richardson sublime strike midway through the first half, but Wisbech’s Josh Ford scored twice, each side of the break to give the Cambridgeshire side passage into the third round.

Marcus Newell made two changes to the Owls starting line-up from their midweek win away at Parkgate in the NCEL League Cup. Darren Hanslip and Louis Grant where both rested and replaced by Luke Mascall and Jonathan Oglesby.

The game started off with a flurry of chances for both sides in the opening exchanges. Firstly, great defending from Wisbech’s Neal Spafford saved the day as Brody Robertson and Marc Cooper linked well together just outside the box but where thwarted as they tried to advance the ball into the box. At the other end Billy Smith dispossessed Luke Mascall on the right

h a n d h a n d , s p r i n t e d 4 0 yards with the bal l but was adjudged to of carried the ball over the dead ball line as he tried to cross to Smith who was waiting to tap the ball home.

J u s t f i v e minutes later a n d S m i t h s h o u l d o f o p e n e d t h e s co r i n g a s a wicked free-kick f r o m A d a m M i l l s o n w a s whipped into the far post but

Smith rose too high and could not control his header which went of Brad Beattie's bar. Just before the quarter-hour mark, the Wisbech backline was broken once more but Lea Jordan produced a wondrous save from

Oglesby after the ball was laid into his path by Cooper in a beautifully crafted move.

With the weather making the pitch very muddy it was difficult for players from both sides to keep ahold of their footing. This was evident as both Robertson and Cooper slipped inside the penalty area just as they where about to pull the trigger for the Owls.

The best chance of the opening 25 minutes fell to Robertson who once again found himself in an advanced position as Jack Barlow bumfuzzled his way past his marker on the right and crossed with inch perfect precision to Robertson but he fired over the bar from 10 yards out much to his dismay.

The opening goal of the game did eventually come though, in the 32nd minute. The ball was worked forward on the left hand side and it dropped nicely to Richardson who side footed the ball home with aplomb. This sent the traveling fans into raptures and the bench wild with joy.

Page 6: Cleethorpes Town vs Staveley Miners Welfare

Firstly, I would like to commend all the traveling fans that went to Wisbech last weekend for our FA Vase tie. Unfortunately we lost the match but our sprit on and off the field was brilliant. It is great to see so many youngsters following the Owls both home and away and shows what a great family and community based club we have.

Secondly, I would like to welcome our visitors this afternoon, Staveley Miners Welfare. They are on a

fantastic run in the league, having won their last 7 matches, exactly the same as the Owls, so something has to give, and I am sure it will be a cracker!

We expect it to be a tough test and will take nothing for granted going into the game.

We are well under way w i t h t h e p l a n n i n g application process for the building our our ground at the Linden Homes Club, so in the new few weeks/months I will hopefully be

able to update you all again with more positive news.

Lastly, I would like to say a big thank you to all the backroom/support staff at this great club. All the volunteers who put in countless hours behind the s c e n e s s h o u l d b e applauded and I thank you all for your efforts.

Under 16’s County Cup Review...

2 through as one s l i p s o u t o f competition

2 of 3 that is the statistic after the latest round off the under 16 county cup that saw one side knocked out.

Unfortunately we saw our under 15 BJB side put in a brave effort against under 16 side from Boston, on another day they could of forced a re su l t f r om the game, manager Wayne Smith was proud of his players who put in the brave effort.

Under 16s BJB faced Grimsby Borough and ran out with a comfortable 9-0 win to go through to the next round.

At the Linden Homes Club Under 1 6 s Pa t t e s o n s d o m i n a t e d possession and ultilised their full squad and ran out with a 4 - 0 victory over a discoveries side with the goals coming from Dan Cook (2), Ollie Willets and George Blake.

The 2 sides will await the draw for the next round, news will appear on the website when known

L e t s s t a r t o f f b y discussing Saturday. W e t r a v e l l e d t o Wisbech, played really well and did more than enough to get a result but it just wasn’t to be. We switched off just before and after half-time and it cost us. We gave away a sloppy goal near the break and just didn’t get going until they scored with just two minutes of the second half gone.

Onto today and we w e l c o m e S t a v e l e y M iner s We l fa re to Bradley FDC. They are in very good form, having won their last 7 matches, the same as us. Only Tadcaster can boast such a good run a t t he moment . I expect Staveley to be

a good side however we are no mugs and know what is expected of us from each game.

We now have two in-form str ikers with B r o d y R o b e r t s o n having scored 6 goals in 3 matches and Marc Cooper having scored 17 goals already this campaign. It is great

to see both of them e n j o y i n g t h e i r football. As long as one of them is scoring though, we will remain happy.

Cleethorpes Town Ladies 1Sleaford Town Ladies 1Sunday 16th November 2014 Cleethorpes Town Ladies played their counterparts from Sleaford in the Lincs County Cup on Sunday 16th November at King George Stadium. The two sides played out a 5-5 draw the week before at Sleaford in the League.

The Ladies started the better side with Kassis Wallis in goal.  Claire Camburnand Natasha Smith were at f u l l b a c k w i t h  S o p h i e Gray and Sophie Burns at the heart of the back four. Captain  Ruth Ashton was partnered in the middle by  Becky Dent  and  L indsay Dye  and  Vicky Bedfordon the flanks.  Gemma Hopkin  and  Amy

George  leading the line and  Alyssa Fussey a substitute.

Becky Dent scored her third goal for the Owls from long range midway through the 1st half with the Owls creating some half chances but they could not quite get the second goal and Sleaford tried to catch them on the counter attack, this made for a nervy game.  Just before half-time Sleaford equalised from long range.

The second half saw the ladies press to regain the lead but for had it not being for some great saves from the Sleaford keeper the scoreline would of never being in doubt.

The game went into extra time which led to more  frustration  as they could not beat the Sleaford keeper as she pulled off a top save

diving high to her right to deny what looked like a winner from  Lindsay Dye,  and so the game went into a penalty shoot out.

With the Owls missing their first, Sleaford scored theres but the ladies did not miss another and  Kassie Wallis  made one save and with Sleaford’s last penalty hitting bar the Ladies came out 4-3 winners and go into the Quarter Finals of this years Lincs County Cup.

Player of the match was  Sophie Gray who had an excellent game at the back for the Ladies.

The Ladies team are next in action Sunday 30th November 2014 at King George Stadium in League Plate action Vs Ruddington Village LFC with a 1:30 kick off.

W i t h a f e w p l a y e r s unavailable from last week 6 changes were made with 5 new players coming into the squad. Josh Thompson was in goal with Mikey Bleasdale from the Under 18's side making his debut at right wing back. Mark Smith continuing on the left with a new pairing of Matt Russell alongside Tom Wingate at centre half. Debutants Jamie Smith, Sebastian Blyth in midfield alongside the returning

Zane Blow f r o m l a s t season and also Matty Payne o f f t h e f r o n t t w o o f Mikey Milne a n d Mackenz ie Overend.

Ben Cadman was a sub w h o w a s also making h i s f i r s t

appearance. The Owls came straight out the b locks and a f ter ten minutes a Bleasdale cross f e l l t o o M i l n e w h o controlled it with his knee and fired into the bottom corner from 15 yards.

They continued to make more chances but was caught on the counter attack with a Caistor forward firing in from outside the box. They then found themselves 2-1 down with minutes remaining in the first half when Caistor worked in from the right and smashed the ball home.

A quick response was requ i red and i t du l y happened when Bleasdale played a long ball looking for Milne when the keeper and a Caistor defender got in a muddle, Milne nipped in scoring from a tight angle right on half time.

The second half was a bit scrappy but the Owls got the ball in the net through a quality drive from 20 yards by Overend but was ruled out for an offside.

Caistor scored the 5th goal of the game from a long ball that eluded the back four with the forward getting in to score what would be the winner.

Thompson made a quality penalty save in the last f ew minu te s a s t hey pushed for an equaliser.

On Saturday they travel to Louth to play Louth Old Boys in the Town Trophy, with a 2:15 kick off.

Despite this the visitors played in the right manner with a great deal maturity but they found the AKP side in a ruthless mood as they hit ten.

Nathan Emson hit 5 of the the 10 in what can only be called a five star display, Nicholas Goodwin hit 2 whilst Oliver Kirton, James Deeming and Callum Robinson also where on the scoresheet.

The win sees the side qualify for the next stage of the supplementary competition.

The beautiful game has been played in Staveley for well over a hundred years and i n 1 8 8 3 a S t a v e l e y s i d e b e a t Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 in the F.A Cup. In 1962 at nearby Barrow Hill under the name, Nag’s Head FC, a Sunday side was formed,  playing friendlies for three years before being accepted into the Mansfield League.

In 1968 they transferred to the Chesterfield League, before a Saturday side was formed in 1989 at their current home of Inkersall Road, finishing runners-up in the Chesterfield Amateur League, and winning the Byron Cup.

In 1991 the club moved up to the Sheffield County Senior League and winning Division Three, then Division Two in consecutive seasons. Staveley by passed Division One and were welcomed into the Central Midlands League in 1993, finishing 4th, 12th, 5th and 3rd and, after passing the  necessary ground grading requirements, continued their rise up the pyramid by being accepted into the Northern Counties East Division One in 1997, and finished runners-up, and claimed their place in the Premier Division, joining the likes of Buxton and Sheffield.

They also picked up their first piece of Northern Counties silverware, when winning the Wilkinson Sword Trophy, beating Harrogate Railway 8-3 on aggregate.  In 2000/01 season Staveley MW suffered the first relegation in their short history after finishing bottom, 67 points behind Champions Brigg Town, and then followed another disastrous season, finishing 2nd bottom of Division One, but surviving their status by re-election. Four years ago, following a terrible run until Christmas with just one league victory and despite winning their last three away games the club still finished bottom of Division One, but were again duly re-elected. In 2003/04 the club  finished 3rd bottom that year avoiding relegation somewhat fortuitously by re-election in the final minute of the season. Things improved in 2004/05 with a creditable 9th place finish and in 2005/2006 and 2006/2007  finishes of 10th and 6th respectively were achieved.  In May 2007 it was  reported that the clubs football committee had resigned on mass and the club was ready to fold before the current chairman, and  team of helpers,  rushed through a rescue package to save the club from extinction in early June.

The club’s new Chairman, Terry Damms, was appointed in June  2007, and with what was

basically an U19 team, Staveley managed a commendable 8th placed finish in the NCEL Division 1, which was achieved with the young squad The Under 19’s gained promotion from division 3 to division 2 with the management duo of Matt Tyers and Mark Renshaw. In June 2008 Steve Ludlam and Shaun Hird were appointed as manager and assistant. Regrettably, a run of 7-defeats in 8 games resulted in them parting company with the club in September 2008. The club had identified Darren Bland as a potential manager, and he along with John Hayden was appointed in October 2008. After one defeat the club went on a 23 game unbeaten run and collected 57-points from the last 25-games, finishing fourth, and added the Wilkinson Sword Trophy to the trophy cabinet being the only club to win it twice. The newly formed reserves under the guidance of Mick Eborall and Dave Mace, came runners up in the Central Midlands Reserve League and the U19’s gained promotion to the top division. A fantastic achievement by all 3-teams. Regrettably, the resignation of the first team management duo was tendered in early September 2009, and a replacement manager Billy Fox were appointed weeks after. Billy's remit was to bring more emphasis and a swing back to the ethos and roots of June 2007, from which the club’s

new era began. A crippling injury crisis cost the first team dearly, and a fourth place finish was a hugely credible performance, and again the Wilkinson Sword Trophy was won for the second year running with the reserves finishing 3rd and cup finalists losers the U19’s were division 1 runners up and cup finalists winners.

The Chairman spearheaded the joining of Handley Wood Juniors Football Club in to the structure of Staveley MWFC and a great deal of hard work has gone in to securing a 25-year lease for the kids just down the road on Chantry Park where they can enjoy their football within a secure and pleasant surroundings.

In 2010/2011 the club produced its best ever season with the first team winning the NCEL Division 1 Title, the reserves winning the Central Midlands Reserve league and the U19’s finishing runners up and winning the Minishield with the management teams at reserves level and U19 of Dean Briggs, Neil Cluxton, Carl Vickers and Lee Needham. All sorts of records were broken during last season with us having the NCEL Top Scorer Ryan Damms who netted 38 times and surpassed 100 goals for the club, a record number of consecutive and total clean sheets

was achieved and a last 32 FA vase place was also achieved.

In 2011/2012 perhaps one of the clubs greatest achievements came when we came within a whisker of appearing in an FA Vase Final at Wembley eventually going out to the winners UTS Dunston by 3-2, a heart breaking experience if ever there was one. In early 2013 the clubs main sponsorship disappeared and with the same all but a handful of players and the manager also left the ship.  Neil Cluxton took over for the remainder of the 2012/2013 season doing a manful job and the 2013/2014 season started with a fair expectation, but ill-discipline and a string of poor results and performances resulted in a further change of management with James Colliver taking over with Jay Roper for the remainder of the remainder of the season. These were turbulent times.
