Cleethorpes Town has come a long way in its relatively short history. Initially formed in 1998 as Lincolnshire Soccer School, it was the brainchild of former Grimsby Town player Tommy Watson. The team was an immediate success with both boys and girls across every age group and the club began to grow quickly.

In 2003, the club set up a flagship senior team. In the team's first season within the Lincolnshire League they secured a credible fourth place finish for which the foundations for the future were set. Now rebranded Cleethorpes Town, the club has redeveloped into an important community outlet. With almost 30 teams competing at every level of local and regional football, the Owls are one of the largest clubs in the area and still continues to expand in all areas. The excellent array of teams and high quality coaching saw the club awarded with Football Association Charter Standard Community Club Status thus further underlining the clubs commitment to providing high quality football coaching alongside enjoyment for youngsters.

The development and evolution of Cleethorpes Town Football Club has been spearheaded by the first team. With the arrival of a new manager during the 2010-11 season it saw the club who were languishing in the lower echelons of the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League go on to finish the season in an amazing third place finish. In addition, the club collected the Supplementary Cup by defeating Heckington United in the final at Sincil Bank. 2011-12 season saw us not only become champions of the Lincs League but also the Challenge Cup winners. Additionally the club was accepted into the NCEL. Our first season in the league saw us finish fourth in the table with some impressive victories along the way. It was a steep learning curve for the players, management and staff.

The 2013-14 started with a change of management and Marcus Newell was brought in. The season started off at a medium pace but a long unbeaten streak mean the Owls were top of the league at christmas. However, we had a slow slow to the new year and fell 7 points behind with only a handful of games remaining. With the pressure at its highest, others around us felt it most and we managed to secure the title with one game to go.

The club is determined to make further strides to improve and fulfil their immediate ambition of becoming North East Lincolnshire's most successful lower league football club.

With both sides unchanged during the break, the Owls started the second half. Having given away and early free kick, the Owls seemed to struggle in the opening few minutes as Shaw Lane came out of the blocks the better team. It was not until the 50th though that they tested Fenty in the Owls goal as Kelsey looked a threat, trying to pounce on a loose ball but Fenty managed to push the ball against the advancing striker and out for a goal kick.

The Owls seemed to be able to absorb the Shaw Lane pressure and should of scored as they broke forward with Hanslip skipping past two challenges to play in Oglesby but he saw his shot blocked, which went out for a corner. At the other end, smart defending from Flett saved the day as Thornhill made room for a goal bound shot from 18 yards out but the midfielder was at hand to block the effort.

With just over 15 minutes gone into the second half, a golden opportunity was gifted to defender Peck as he was unmarked just 8 yards out after Grant clipped the ball to Dickens who nodded it down inside the box into the path of Peck but he could only volley the ball over the bar.

The impetuous seemed to be with the Owls as Cooper then tried to chip the keeper from 25 yards but he effort was just to much and it went over the bar for a goal kick. The Owls made a double substitution in the 75th minute, bringing on Jack Debnam and Robertson in replace of Grant and Jack Barlow as they looked to change things around.

The impact was nearly instant as the Owls took the lead with just 12 minutes of the game remaining. Oglesby played in Cooper who managed to beat the offside trap to curl his effort home just

underneath the crossbar giving the advancing keeper no chance. Just 60 seconds later, Cooper should of completed his hat trick but he spurned his chance as he drag his shot wide of the mark from just outside of the box.

Shaw Lane, who had not had a decent spell of possession for at least 15 minutes then found their mojo. They pushed men f o r w a r d l o o k i n g f o r a n equalising. They could not of got closer in the 81st minute as Haigh attempted to chip Fenty from 30 yards but the ball skimmed the bar and it went out for a goal kick.

As the Ducks pushed forward, the Owls went on a counter attack and should of scored as Debnam played a delightful inswing pass to Oglesby and then sprinted 60 yards for the return inside the box but he skied the ball as it appeared to bobbled on the penalty spot just as he struck the ball.

With the clock running down, the Owls tried to run the clock down by played the ball into the corners but Robertson could not keep hold of the ball and they broke forward. The ball was played to Kelsey but he could only shoot straight at Fenty, much to the annoyance of the traveling support.

There was more late drama, as in the second minute of added time the game was put beyond the reach of Shaw Lane as Flett powered a shot goal ward only for the keeper to not keep hold of it and it squirmed over the l i n e . T h e D u c k s w h e r e powerless in their protests as

the linesman had awarded the goal and he was not changing his mind.

Shaw Lane did press for a consolation goal and nearly got i t i n t h e 9 4 t h minute but Foster saw h i s loop ing header clip the top of the crossbar and it was cleared once more. The ball was p layed back in,

knocked down then Kelsey clattered the post with an effort from 14 yards out.

The final whistle was blown moments later, and had it not been for the frame of the goal, the scoreline could have been much different, but it was and the Owls recorded their seventh straight win in all competitions, which has now lifted them up to seventh in the table.

Cleethorpes Town recorded their seventh straight victory on Wednesday night against 2nd place Shaw Lane Aquaforce at the Bradley Community Stadium. A healthy crowd of 202 saw a 3-1 win for the Owls with a brace from Marc Cooper and a late stoppage time goal from midfielder Alex Flett.

The Owls made 5 changes to the starting line-up from their 1-0 win away at Thackley last weekend. Brad Beattie, Lee McFarland, Lawrence Heward, Brody Robertson and Jack Richardson where all rested with the latter two being moved to the substitutes bench. In replace of these where Richard Peck, new signing Liam Dickens, Darren Hanslip, Miles Fenty and Daniel Grant.

The game started off at a slow pace with both sides trying to penetrate each other’s back line but to no effect in the early stages. With the Ducks not conceding at all during the first 15 minutes of any game this season the Owls knew it would be tough to break down their strong defence. The first chance of the game fell to Kelsey in the fourth minute but his long-range effort was over Fenty’s goal.

It was not until the seventh minute that the Owls fashioned an effort on target as Bailey was made to work in the Shaw Lane goal as Captain Darren Hanslip tried an audacious chip but it was well saved by the back peddling shot stopper.

The pressure was kept up by the Owls as Cooper then went close to opening the scoring as he saw he angled 25 yard effort narrowly miss the target.

A rare mistake by Luke Mascall let in Thornton just before the 20-minute mark but he shot over the bar when other options where available. With chances at both ends, it was not long before ball was in the back of the net and it came for the hosts. A great move by the Owls, involving a Hanslip flick on and an Oglesby lofted pass was seized on by Cooper who coolly slotted home his 13th goal of the season sending the home fans into raptures.

The Owls tried to capitalise on this momentum as they pushed on to further enhance the scoreline as Alex Flett and Dickens linked well together but Dickens could only head the ball wide of the mark at the back post.

The second goal of the game came only six minutes after the first, as Shaw Lane got a well-deserved equaliser. Centre-back O’Brien smashed the ball in off the

post having seconds earlier seen Fox’s effort rebound off the woodwork.

This gave the visitors the upper hand as they drove forward din numbers looking for another goal. As they broke forward in the 33rd minute Fenty came rushing out of goal and appeared to effectively clear his line but clattered into an advancing striker in the process. The linesman on the far side seemed to signal for a throw-in but the referee decided to award a free-kick to Shaw Lane in consequently show a yellow card to Fenty, his first of the season.

From the free kick Holt narrowly missed the target from just outside the box as the ball whistled past the post.

From the goal kick, Fenty’s long punt found Cooper who played in Louis Grant who unselfishly squared it to Oglesby but he could only fire over the bar with just the keeper to beat.

With the clock winding down for half time, both sides seemed to be happy going into the break all level and the game seemed to lose its spark. There was a couple of meaty challenges which went unpunished in the closing stages but this just showed the passion and

Today's game sees us play Maltby Main and I'd like to welcome the p l aye r s management and supporters.

Like every game in the NCEL Premier Division, it will be one were we will have to be on top of our game to keep our fantastic run going.

Talking of our great run of form it has been great to see the lads being rewarded for there hard work and hopefully they can continue this today.

Off the field there has been some highs and lows. Firstly the low which unfortunately we have been expelled from the

Lincs Senior Trophy due to an admin error and as Chairman of the club I hold my hands up and take full responsibility. I feel for the lads and management because they battled hard to get a result only for this to happen and I apologise to each and everyone.

Onto the highs and I'm delighted to announce we have finally signed a long lease for the Linden Homes Club which secures the home of Cleethorpes Town for many a year. On the back of that we can now submit the p lans for the future development and bring home the f i r s t team. A l so the applications for funding to support this are also being

sorted and sent. So this really is an exciting time to be an owl.

Finally we have a coach for next weeks FA Vase tie at Wisbech Town. Spaces are limited and are priced at only £5 per person. Please put your name down on the sheet at the Linden Club. I know the lads really appreciated your vocal support at our last tie and will need it again at what will be an intimidating place.

Under 16’s County Cup Review...

Unfortunately we saw our under 15 BJB side put in a brave effort against under 16 side from Boston, on another day they could of forced a re su l t f r om the game, manager Wayne Smith was proud of his players who put in the brave effort.

Under 16s BJB faced Grimsby Borough and ran out with a comfortable 9-0 win to go through to the next round.

At the Linden Homes Club Under 1 6 s Pa t t e s o n s d o m i n a t e d possession and ultilised their full squad and ran out with a 4 - 0 victory over a discoveries side with the goals coming from Dan Cook (2), Ollie Willets and George Blake.

The 2 sides will await the draw for the next round, news will appear on the website when known

W e a r e n o w u n d e f e a t e d i n 9 matches now after our victory over Louth Town in the L incs Senior Trophy and it is great. The team spirit and belief in what we are doing as a unit is taking us a long way. We are all pulling in the same direction and it's working.

As you are probably aware, we have been removed from the Lincs S e n i o r Tr o p h y f o r fielding an ineligible player. It was gutting for us all as we truly thought we could win that cup and to be put out in such a way after a f an ta s t i c e f f o r t aga ins t Louth was unbelievably gutting. However we must not dwell on this and we now look forward to todays game against Maltby Main.

As with every team we play in this league, they will be a tough nut to crack but we are playing well and will be looking to pick up all three points.

This season we have u s e d 3 2 d i f f e r e n t players (in comparison we used 38 in 2013/14 and 42 in 2012/13). We will always be looking

to try and bring in quality players and as last season proved, you need a big squad to do well at this level.

Mansfield Hosiery Mills 6Cleethorpes Town Ladies 0Sunday 21st September 2014 After losing a player the morning of the game to sickness and another one to sickness in the warm-up it was time to face Mansfield with only 10 players.

The game started with a quick rush from Mansfield and they opened the scoring early on with a through ball. Mansfield kept the pressure on and another through ball saw the Mansfield striker one on one with keeper Kassie Wallis and a brilliant save with her foot kept the score at 1-0.

Mansfield used the extra player to their advantage and crossed the ball in only to be turned into the net with an own goal from Gemma Wardle. Gemma Charlton made a couple of individual runs into the opposing penalty area, but the keeper was in the right place at the right time and prevented any goals.

Mansfield then played another through ball and again Kassie Wallis made another great save to keep the score down.

Cleethorpes played a couple of over the top balls which left the Mansfield defence only to be ruled offside. Just before half

time Mansfield let go a stunning strike from the edge of the area i n t o t h e t o p c o r n e r a n unstoppable shot, 3-0.

Half time came and it was a case of stick or twist. With another Mansfield goal soon after half time, the mountain was too big too climb and a Mansfield cross from the right saw it go across the goal mouth for a tap in. The game was then finished by another stunning goal by a Mansfield winger from outside the area into the top corner. Game finished 6-0.

CLEETHORPES TOWN ‘A’ Was With Mick Gibbons & Andy Cawte

Saturday 25th October saw the “A” team travel to Caistor to play Caistor Tennyson in the league.

W i t h a f e w p l a y e r s unavailable from last week 6 changes were made with 5 new players coming into the squad. Josh Thompson was in goal with Mikey Bleasdale from the Under 18's side making his debut at right wing back. Mark Smith continuing on the left with a new pairing of Matt Russell alongside Tom Wingate at centre half. Debutants Jamie Smith, Sebastian Blyth in midfield alongside the returning

Ben Cadman was a sub w h o w a s also making h i s f i r s t

appearance. The Owls came straight out the b locks and a f ter ten minutes a Bleasdale cross f e l l t o o M i l n e w h o controlled it with his knee and fired into the bottom corner from 15 yards.

They continued to make more chances but was caught on the counter attack with a Caistor forward firing in from outside the box. They then found themselves 2-1 down with minutes remaining in the first half when Caistor worked in from the right and smashed the ball home.

A quick response was requ i red and i t du l y happened when Bleasdale played a long ball looking for Milne when the keeper and a Caistor defender got in a muddle, Milne nipped in scoring from a tight angle right on half time.

The second half was a bit scrappy but the Owls got the ball in the net through a quality drive from 20 yards by Overend but was ruled out for an offside.

Caistor scored the 5th goal of the game from a long ball that eluded the back four with the forward getting in to score what would be the winner.

Thompson made a quality penalty save in the last f ew minu te s a s t hey pushed for an equaliser.

On Saturday they travel to Louth to play Louth Old Boys in the Town Trophy, with a 2:15 kick off.

2014/15 Lincs League: S u p e r 1 0 f o r D e v e l o p m e n t SquadCleethorpes AKP hit ten against Louth Town Reserves as they took advantage of depleted number as the visitors could only field nine players.

Despite this the visitors played in the right manner with a great deal maturity but they found the AKP side in a ruthless mood as they hit ten.

Nathan Emson hit 5 of the the 10 in what can only be called a five star display, Nicholas Goodwin hit 2 whilst Oliver Kirton, James Deeming and Callum Robinson also where on the scoresheet.

The win sees the side qualify for the next stage of the supplementary competition.

The original football club was formed in 1916 as Maltby Main FC (the local colliery). All players were employed at the nearby pit - indeed, a good footballer was often guaranteed employment at the colliery so he could represent the football club! The original Maltby Main FC was disbanded in 1965.

Maltby Miners Welfare FC was formed in 1970 and was the football section of the Miners Welfare. The club played in the Sheffield Senior League until 1972, when they joined the old Yorkshire League and then the Northern Counties East League formed from the merger of the Yorkshire & Midland Leagues. The club began their NCEL life in Division One (South) but the installation of floodlights earned a place in the Premier Division for the 1990/91 season, a very creditable sixth position being attained having won 10 and drawing 2 of the fifteen home games.

Success continued during what was to become the 4 year reign as manager of Colin Walker, the ex-

Rotherham United, Sheffield Wednesday, Doncaster Rovers and New Zealand player, who took the club from the Northern Counties East First to the Premier Division where they finished 4th and won the President's Cup in his final season in charge (1992-93). Colin then left to manage Barnsley's Youth team. The 1998/1999 season was difficult and, despite a successful start and a place in the President's Cup Semi-finals, relegation was avoided only on goal difference and Steve resigned in the close season because of work commitments which take him out of the country for long periods. Glyn Kenny moved from Parkgate to take over the reigns, along with his assistant, Glyn Reeves, coach Les Harris and several of the previous season's Parkgate squad and, with several promising youngsters coming through the ranks of the very strong junior sides, hopes were high for an improvement in fortunes.

After an uncertain start, the 1999/2000 season proved to be one of consolidation

and, despite goalscoring problems, the team finished the season strong in defence and midfield only for the NCEL to relegate the club for not being able to fund hardstanding around the pitch for the new season. This scandalous decision was stubbornly adhered to by the league despite the fact that Maltby Miners Welfare have, in close season, spent £¼ million on new dressing room and hospitality facilities which are arguably the best in the league. If, instead, the relatively paltry sum of £6000 had been spent on hard standing and a new portakabin for hospitality, the club would have remained in the Premier Division with the players having to continue to use damp overcrowded changing facilities - such is the logic of football authorities!

With relegation came the resignation of the management team after only one season in charge and Paul Cavell and Glen Morris took over. Early season form was poor and, with Main rooted to the foot of Division One, with only one league victory, Paul resigned and the board moved swiftly

to appoint Russ Eagle as team manager. Despite defeats in his first three matches, Russ managed to turn things around and with only 5 defeats in the last 20 fixtures. Main finished a creditable 9th.

Wilf Race stunned the club in June 2002 with a shock resignation, but the board moved quickly to appoint former player Mark Smith as team manager, with Vinnie Brady staying on as Assistant Manager. Despite a promising start with a win at Tadcaster Albion on the first day of the 2002/03 season, several defeats, some heavy, followed and, following Vinnie’s departure back to Parkgate, Mark Smith resigned after only a few weeks in charge.

Sean Kay took over the reins at Muglet Lane in the summer of 2006 following the departure of Wilf Race. Sean had a very successful coaching career which included two years at Rotherham United. They dominated the Premier League in the first half of the season and then fell away to finish 10th as they struggled with injuries.

Despite high hopes of a good 2007-2008 campaign and promotion aspirations from the management team the season was a real let down for the club. With superb sponsorship from Hargreaves, the new Maltby Colliery owners, all involved were looking forward to a successful season but it was not to be. Sean Kay resigned in December following a string of poor results, and Robbie Barron took over the reigns of the club until the end of the season. Most of the playing squad left with Kay but Robbie assembled a new squad in record time, which was good enough to keep the club in the top flight.

Steve Adams came from Stocksbridge PS to take the helm for the 2008-2009 season and the Maltby faithful were (once again!) looking forward to a successful new season. Steve parted company with the club during the summer of 2012 after 4 years with the club. The club invited Chris Dunn to take over prior to the start of the 2012-13 season along with his assistants Gary Middleton and Andy Carney.

Miles, you played 29 times for the Owls last season until you suffered a broken shoulder, how has the recovery been?It been a slow process, especially with work commitments, but I am back now and rearing to go.

Do you like to train or do you prefer to be on the pitch kicking a ball about? How does work effect your training?I prefer to train. I enjoy a good goalkeeping training session as I get to work a lot harder than in a game.

So, take me back to the beginning, how did you first get into football?From watching Grimsby Town as a toddler and I think my parents got me into it. I started with Mr B when I was about 5 and it progressed form there.

You joined CTFC in 2012 from Grimsby Borough , how was the transition between the clubs?Think it was the year before when Andy Liddell 1st took over and we won the Complimentary Cup. I then moved to Borough for a different challenge and didn't enjoy it there so I decided to come back.

Who did you make your debut against for The Owls and how did you find it?I can't remember. It would of been in the Lincs League but I am not too sure, but I found it

challenging as it was my 1st game on playing Saturdays.

Have you always played in goal? No, I used to be a striker / attacking midfielder until I was about 11.

Winning the league must of been great, tell me about the emotions you went through?Yes, it was a good experience. I think it was February time where we had that bad patch and thought we blew it. The changing point was where Marc cooper scored the last minute winner v Shirebrook Town at home, and we went on to end the season on a high.

Marcus has had a successful time as the 'gaffer', why do you think this is?I think the lads where under a lot less pressure and he got us enjoying playing football.

What can we expect from The Owls this season, mid-table? Top 6? Promotion?In all honestly mid table. I don't think we have a strong enough squad to push above that having lost a couple of key players without replacing them.

Lastly, tell us about your favourite save, you must have one!?Can't really remember a save that stands out, probably against Grimsby Town in Pre-Season last year just because of the decent crowd that was there.
