THE

Tired of his hands hurting from assembling
washers for a Townsend Design project,
Packaging Client Fausto Augustin searched
for a way to improve the process. After
many attempts to find a tool to better the
method, Fausto finally found the key to
his search right in front of him. Fausto as-
certained that if he used the plastic insert
from the roll of washers, it would ease his
aching hands. “The plastic insert has a hole
that works great to snap the pieces of the
washer together,” said Fausto while ex-
plaining the process. “It’s really easy
now.” The new method has increased
productivity among the Clients that are
assigned to the job. “People hated doing
the job before because it hurt their hands,”
said Supervisor Nicole Ortiz-Velez. “Now
everybody loves the job.” Client Nancy
Butchko reiterated Nicole’s statement,
“My hands don’t hurt anymore. Thank
you Augie (Fausto’s nickname).” The new
invention not only alleviates sore hands, it
also increases accuracy! According to Ni-
cole, “The washers were not always fas-
tened properly because people weren’t
able to apply the right amount of pressure
to snap them together. Because of Fausto’s
invention, all of the Clients can accurately
assemble the washers.” The new technique
will be utilized by the Access Now depart-
ment as well when they are working on
the Townsend job. The BARC Team wish-
es to thank Fausto for his innovative
technique!
