OPPORTUNITIES

2016 Citizenship Washington Focus

Looking for an experience of a lifetime? Look no

further than the Citizenship Washington Focus trip

where you as a 9th-12th grader can travel by charter

bus to visit Washington D.C. and the National 4-H

Center. Experience leadership and citizenship on a

higher level with this epic opportunity on June 10-18,

2016.

Trip highlights include the Flight 93 Museum,

Gettysburg Battlefield, Capitol Hill, Smithsonian

Museum, Mount Vernon and the Holocaust Museum.

Youth will also meet with the Iowa Congressional

and Senate delegations to discuss legislative issues.

Besides tours and workshops, 4-H'ers will have time

for socializing and meeting new friends!

Cost of the trip is $1,570. This includes lodging, transportation, tour site admissions and most meals. Registration and a $510 deposit will be required to secure a spot. Space is limited. Registration deadline is January 4, 2016. To learn more about the trip and to get registration information visit: www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/cwf.

New 4-H Families Orientation

New to 4-H? Wondering how to prepare for the fair? How to sign up to show livestock? When to sign up for camp? Then you need to attend New 4-H Families Orientation! New 4-H Families Orientation will be held on Thursday, January 28th at the Madison County Extension Office. Dinner will be served at 5:30 pm, and we’ll start with the program around 6 pm. We are holding this program earlier this year in an effort to get families “in the loop” sooner. All new families are invited to attend, as are families who have been in the program but have not attended orientation in the past. Please plan on bringing any questions you may have. Also, if you have received any paperwork or e-mails you have questions about, please bring those as well. RSVP is required for this program (for food count and to ensure we have enough materials). Please call 515-462-1001 to register to attend. You will need to know the number of individuals from your family planning on attending. We look forward to seeing you at orientation!

STEM Activities and Projects

Curiosity is natural!

With wide eyes, kids ponder: How does a bridge stay up? Why do carrots grow under the ground? Why does a car need gas? Like seeds, their interests need to be watered and tended to in order to grow. 4-H helps youth discover and foster this passion for science, engineering, technology and math (STEM). It offers a hands-on approach to developing the excitement and skills necessary for youth to succeed in a safe and fun setting.

Check out how to start the possibilities:
