Why CNC Design?

Having extensive experience and an activenetwork in this industry, CNC Design Thailand hadidentified a suitable machine in Europe. This was aHerkules WS450, suited for grinding the rolls ofPOSCO-Thainox. The roll grinder was shipped toour Thailand factory in Bangkok and the workbegan.

The Retrofit

To achieve the high accuracy required for thestainless steel cold mill, the machine had toundergo a complete mechanical rebuild &electrical retrofit including:

o Complete machine strip downo Slideway grinding & scrapingo Wheel carriage overhaulo SINUMERIK 840Dslo New S120 AC Drives + Servo & Main Motorso New hydraulic & lubrication systemo Coolant system overhaulo New electrical cabinet & operator stationo Full machine electrical rewiring

The Challenge

When extending their production capacity,POSCO-Thainox had to also extend their capabilityof servicing their busy cold mills, hence they werelooking for increasing the capacity of their rollshops. Given the trusted relationship with ourThailand office, we were requested to source asecond hand roll grinder. The challenge was tocomplete this project that included completemechanical rebuild & electrical retrofit in theshortest possible time, within the agreed budgetwhilst achieving the maximum performance asrequired for the high end products.

POSCO-Thainox Public Company Limited is theonly manufacturer & distributor of premium cold-rolled stainless steel sheets & coils in Thailand.Their steel supplies the busy local manufacturingindustries in need of Austenitic and FerriticStainless Steel. This steel is used in Automotive &Transportation, Food Processing and MedicalEquipment, Building & Construction and HeavyIndustry.

The Result

Completed on time, in budget and achieving thegrinding performances of a brand new machine,featuring CNC Design software for roll grinders,this is just one of the many successful projectsdone by CNC Design in this demanding industry….
