Compexx adds heat while providing two stage pressure reduction and custody transfer metering of CNG.

Compexx fills the CNG off-loading niche where 3-phase power is available and appropriate for heating. Compexx incorporates over 35 years of dry, electric heating technology.

As CNG is discharged from a storage tank, it undergoes rapid expansion. This causes significant cooling in accordance with the Joules–Thompson effect. The result can be formation of hydrates as well as potential thermal degradation to downstream components.

Overview Compexx is designed for small to medium capacity CNG applications. The modular design allows single core or multi-core configurations. Capacity sizing range from 800Nm3/h to 4000Nm3/h. Compexx utilizes electric heating elements cast “in-situ” into an aluminum core. This design is dry, and eliminates water glycol, circulation pumps and consequent concerns about corrosion. The CNG itself is contained within a flanged 316 SS coil also cast into the aluminum heater block.

From cold status to operating temperature requires approximately 4 minutes. Compexx accepts CNG at 10 – 250 barg and provides two stage pressure reduction. Pressure switches installed downstream of both regulators will close the inlet safety solenoid valve if an abnormal pressure occurs. In addition, pressure relief valves eliminate over pressurization concerns.

Two thermocouples control normal operation and provide over-temperature protection. Gas metering is provided by a Roots type meter equipped with a mechanical totalizer. A 4-20mA signal is available. Odorization is available as an option. The Compexx is available packaged in a robust weather resistant enclosure – ready for installation and commissioning.
