Twins Players Serve Fans Free Lunch at Global Market Twins players, Eduardo Escobar and Miguel Sano, served free tamales, rice and horchata to customers at La Loma Tamales in South Minneapolis Wednesday, May 3. Each year the Twins host mini parties around Twins Territory as a way to give back to the community. Throughout the season, players surprise community members in popular places like the University of Minnesota and Global Market to serve food and interact with fans. La Raza Cinco de Mayo Festival The Minnesota Twins celebrated Cinco de Mayo with its Spanish broadcast partner, La Raza Radio, on Sunday, May 7 on Lake Street in Minneapolis. The Twins had two inflatable baseball games, as well as a prize and information table. Twins staff, along with Tony Oliva, helped guests play games and win prizes like t-shirts, diversity tumblers and bobble heads. La Raza Radio and the Twins work together year-round, specifically when it comes to Spanish broadcasting of Twins baseball games. Twins Sponsor Connect Asia Event Connect Asia is a unique platform organized by the India Association of Minnesota that aims to bring together corporate employee resource groups and Asian organizations under one umbrella to promote engagement, inclusion and diversity in corporate leadership. This year’s theme was “Diversity: the art of thinking independently together” Malcom Forbes. The event began with a social hour and followed by an address by the keynote speaker, a panel discussion and a story-telling skit by the renowned artist, Zaraawar Mistry. The Twins are proud to have sponsored the event to continue its partnership with the India Association of Minnesota. Noche de Gala by Ballet Folklorico Mexico Azteca The Minnesota Twins helped sponsor a performance by Ballet Folkorico Mexico Azteca Saturday, May 20. Each dance hailed from a specific city in Mexico and showed the tradition, music and apparel from that specific city. The Noche de Gala was a great expression of culture through movement and music, creating an exciting performance for the audience. Farnsworth Aerospace 5-8 Upper Campus Science Fair On May 23, Minnesota Twins staff served as judges in the 2017 Farnsworth Aerospace Science Fair. Over 500 5th- 8th grade students created science projects for the event. On Thursday, May 25, Twins staff returned to Farnsworth with Minnesota Twins mascot TC Bear to honor the top projects from each grade at the awards ceremony by handing out trophies and ribbons to the winning students. 2017 Twin Cities Pride Festival The Minnesota Twins, in collaboration with the Twin Cities Pride organization, are preparing for the Twin Cities Pride Celebration on June 24 and 25. “Twin Cities Pride is excited about our new partnership with the Minnesota Twins and expect it to grow even greater in the coming years. We look forward to hosting the Twins batting and pitching inflatables at the Pride Festival. We invite the public to join us as we celebrate at the largest free Pride Celebration in the country” –Dot Belstler, Executive Director of Twin Cities Pride. As a way to support Twin Cities Pride and their need for volunteers, each person who signs up to volunteer will get complimentary tickets to a Twins game this summer. Spotlight Player Profile Byron Buxton Born: December 18, 1993 in Baxley, Georgia Position: OF Height: 6' 2" Weight: 190 Bats: Right Throws: Right MLB Debut: June 14, 2015 Twins outfielder Byron Buxton was drafted by Minnesota with the second overall pick of the 2012 Draft out of Appling County High School in Baxley, Georgia. Ranked as one of the top prospects in all of baseball before the 2014, 2015 and 2016 seasons, Buxton made his Major League debut on June 14, 2015 and began his first full season with Minnesota the following year. Already an exceptional defender, Buxton began to come into his own as a hitter last September, hitting .287 with nine home runs and 22 RBI. After a slow start to the 2017 campaign, Buxton began to heat up at the plate towards the end of April and now adds a dynamic element on both offense and defense for the Twins on a nightly basis.
