This may include more social time before meetings and group lunches after the meetings to encourage us all to get to know one another. I am also encouraging more small activities through our Activities Chairman. We will be promoting Bee participation and adding Bees if needed. It has been suggested that we need a beginner Bee to serve those who would like to quilt, but need a little help getting started. With these goals in mind I will remind you that this month begins the new year for our guild. I want to remind everyone to renew their membership as our new directory will be coming out soon. Hi Guys and Gals,

A true story: A member joined our guild at a quilt show. She came to several

meetings, always sitting alone. She finally decided, “I am going to the retreat

and if no one makes me feel more welcome I will have to drop the guild.” She

was so serious about this that she talked to the Retreat Chairman. The Retreat

Chairman went out of her way to make sure the new member was included and

made to feel valued. That member is now on your board.

Another true story: A member joined our guild at a quilt show. She was never

contacted or invited to a meeting. She quit.

This leads to telling you my goals for the upcoming year. The first and fore-

most is to support the interests of “YOU”, the current active members. To this

end I need “YOU” to tell “YOUR” board what you would like to see. We want

your ideas on activities, retreats, workshops, and programs; in other words, the

whole works. The programs and workshops for this year are already sched-

uled, but this is the time you can influence next year’s programming. Don’t be

shy. We are here to serve you!

My second goal is to increase membership. I am working with our hospitality

chair to make visitors feel welcome and encouraged to join and to retain new

members by getting them involved. This will take help. We want to reintro-

duce the “GUILD GUIDES”. A Guild Guide is an active member who pairs with

a new or prospective member to help them become engaged in guild activities

the first year. Becoming involved is the most important step to retaining mem-

bers. We are also going to make the guild more social. This may include more

social time before meetings and group lunches after the meetings to encourage

us all to get to know one another. I am also encouraging more small activities

through our Activities Chairman. We will be promoting Bee participation and

adding Bees if needed. It has been suggested that we need a beginner Bee to

serve those who would like to quilt, but need a little help getting started.

With these goals in mind I will remind you that this month begins the new year

for our guild. I want to remind everyone to renew their membership as our new

directory will be coming out soon.

And Sew it Begins,

Debbie Garner

Activities by Grace Clarke

Our project for the year is “Block of the month Lottery “! You will have two opportunities to win. You could win

the monthly lottery or the Sampler Lottery at the end of the year (August 2020).

This is how to enter, make a set of three blocks of the month. Bring them to the monthly meeting or send them with a friend. One block will go to charity, the second block will go in the monthly Lottery to be drawn during the meeting and the third block will be saved for the end of year Lottery for the sampler. For more chances

make multiple sets of the block of the month. The blocks chosen are easy and we encourage you to use the best

fabrics from your stash!

Before the October meeting we will have a “live fabric swap “. More details about the fabric swap to follow.

This will help you gather the fabrics needed to participate each month at no cost to you!

Community Service by Sakeenah Mubashshir

Greeting Guild Members…

The following message is from Helen Wilems for the Community Service Article:

“Just a quick note---thank you to all who have helped complete the work was left by Sakeenah. Every-

thing was either finished or still out to be done. I have two bins full and over flowing. The Guild Members are

very generous with time and energy. And my personal thanks to Sakeenah for allowing me to take her place

while she was gone.“

The key to success is hard work and determination. This statement is truly reflected in the amount of completed

charity work I collected from Helen on my returned from an extended absence. I would like to express my sin-

cere gratitude to Helen for taking on the responsibility of Community Service Leader.

Added thanks to the following Guild Members who helped with Community Service over the past month:

Barbara Foote Barbara Baxter Carol Ann Barley Susie Doe
