TASK SHEET 1--PREPARING EVIDENCE PLAN

ACTIVITY TITLE: Preparing an Evidence Plan

OBJECTIVE: Prepare an Evidence Plan for a unit of competency

MATERIALS, TOOLS : Copy of a Unit of Competency, pen, and paper Template for Evidence Plan INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE ACTIVITY:

1. Using the unit of competency you studied earlier, prepare an Evidence Gathering Plan or Evidence Plan in short.

2. Establish the Evidence Requirements by doing the following steps:

a. Thoroughly read the Unit of Competency.

Focus on the Performance Criteria of the first Element. Notice that the performance criteria are either a process, product, or behaviour which has been stated using the present tense and passive voice.

The evidences required to infer competency are usually based on observing processes that have been followed, products that have been made, underpinning knowledge and skills and the underlying attitude or behaviour exhibited.

b. To establish the evidence requirements of a Unit of Competency, you must study the Performance Criteria together with the Critical Aspect of Competency and the Underpinning Knowledge and Skills found on the Evidence Guide of the unit of competency.

c. Practice writing the evidence requirements of Element number 1 of your chosen Unit of Competency by re-stating the Performance Criteria in present tense and active voice.

d. Observe that in the evidence plan template below where you will write evidence requirements the introductory statement “The evidence must show that the candidate …” is already written on top of the template therefore you will have to be guided on how to write the rest of the statement.

e. Read the Critical Aspects of Competency found in the Evidence Guide Section of your Unit of Competency. Compare this critical aspect of competency to the performance criteria of each Element of the Unit of Competency. If the element and the performance criteria are covered by any of the Critical Aspects of Competency use simply use the Critical aspect of competency and mark it with an asterisk.

f. Read and rewrite all of performance criteria (if needed) to complete your evidence requirements. Use the left side of the template for your evidence requirements.

g. Now, read the Underpinning Knowledge and Underpinning Skills which are also in the Evidence Guide Section of the Unit of Competency. Do the evidence requirements you have written considered the underpinning knowledge and skills? If

not, make statements of evidence requirements for the underpinning knowledge and skills.

3. Fill in the Evidence Plan templates through these steps :

a. For each of the evidence requirements you listed in the template, identify the method you intend to use to gather the evidence. Write them as heading of the column on the right side of the templates.

b. Tick which method would be appropriate for each of the evidence requirements you have identified.

Remember that there is no hard and fast rule as to the number of assessment method to be used for every evidence requirement. You can have one or two or three methods if it is appropriate for each evidence requirement. You may refer to the TR for suggested methods of assessment. And be guided by the behavioral verbs preceding the evidence requirement.

4. When you have completed the Evidence Plan, you may show it to you facilitator for evaluation and recommendation.
