INTRODUCTION

Chew Jetty is one of the Clan Jetties at Weld Quay of Penang. This jetty is a famous tourism area. It was an active jetty in 19th century. The residents of this jetty are descendants of Chinese immigrants.

Most of them are Taoism and they have the annual prayer to Jade Emperor (Tee Kong) that occurs on the 9th of the first month in Chinese calendar (Lunar Calendar).

THE TOURISTSChew Jetty became one of famous tourism area in Penang. The

wooden houses and the scent of the sea is what the tourists love.

SKILL COMES FROM PRACTICEMr. Chew and his wife had been selling fried shrimp pancakes

for decades.

BOATSSome of the residents still depend on

fishing to earn a living.

HOMEMost of the young people moved out from the area for work, but they still return to this jetty for special occasion such as

Chinese New Year. Nothing is better than going back home for days like that.
