Well, for starters, I am the assistant MD for theEnglish Pop Orchestra, which I am heavily involvedin. On top of that I also perform as often as I canboth locally and nationally – I play the double bass, synthesizer, piano and bass guitar. In fact I have atour coming up. I also regularly play piano at theLongleat Safari Park. I involve myself in variousmusical theatre groups within the local area too, playing or conducting.
■ That certainly is a lot! Why did you take thestep into teaching?
It’s interesting, because I vowed to never become ateacher. However, I have never regretted thedecision. I enjoy being able to teach and helpdevelop the musicians of tomorrow. There’s such avariety of talent here at the College and it’s sointeresting to watch the students, and their passionfor the industry, grow.
■ What opportunities are available within theindustry?
All our degrees are vocational which means thereare a lot of pathways open to the students upongraduating. Many of our students will go on tosome sort of practical job, for example, musicians, actors and so on. Some may go to work in themedia, backstage or into teaching. Others will usetheir degree to get into support work jobs, forexample, marketing, PR and administration withintheatres or concert halls.
