Grade 6B/7B News – Welcome back!

This year I have 11 students back for another year with me, and 11 students who are new to me and to our classroom routines. Welcome to my new students and their families. Students were quick to learn their new schedule. Mme Fournier is teaching Career studies, Mme Perrault is the grade 7 ELA teacher, Mlle Dubeau is teaching Science and I am teaching the remaining grade 6/7B subjects, including grade 6 ELA. We started off the year with some team building activities and challenges. Students used their reasoning and communication skills to solve a variety of problems. In math grade 6 students are reviewing place value while the grade 7s are working on divisibility rules. We are working on geography and reviewing past concepts in Social studies in addition to learning about current events. This year’s middle year’s goals are focused on improving the quality of student’s written work. We spent some class time completing a creative writing piece that will be used to determine areas that we need to focus on. It has been a great start to the year and I am looking forward to helping students grow in confidence, organizational skills, relationship building skills and knowledge. Have a great year!

Mme Gingell

SCHOOL COMMUNITY COUNCIL

The École Gravelbourg School Community Council would like to welcome all new and former students to the 2017-18 school year. This year will be another busy year for the SCC supporting students learning and fostering community within our school. We provided muffins, fruit and juice the

first day of school with our Smart Start

Breakfast.

We will continue with Hot Lunches, the Christmas Lunch, a reading event, Fundraising events as well as continue to lobby the school division for different issues that arise in our school. We have also looked at the data from the “Tell Them From Me” Survey that students and parents filled out in the spring. Look for more information about the TTFM in the near future. We are also looking forward to our

Christmas Lunch in December. We will

graciously accept any food or monetary

donations to help provide this fantastic

meal for our students.

Please feel free to contact Kristine Goepen-Bourgeois if you have any questions or would like to be involved with the School Community Council in some way.

CROSS COUNTRY

While Cross Country is an individual sport

requiring dedication outside of school

hours, our club also meets twice a week.

During that time, we work on dynamics,

proper breathing, running and stretching.

Team members include: Camille, Zander,

Mikaya, Vaughn, Samuel, Jolie and Julien.

Vaughn, Julien and Samuel will be

representing our school at the invitational

meet in Moose Jaw on Tuesday, September

26. Best of luck!

Mme Gingell

4 O’Clock Rock

Mr. Simonsen, Mrs. Jobi Nichol and Mr.

Chad Tremblett are working with ten

high school students under the

umbrella of the Gravelbourg

Community Music Centre “Four O’Clock

Rock” program. Students will rehearse

for eight months, then perform a set of

songs for the school and for the

community in the month of May.

VOLLEYBALL

Volleyball remains a very popular sport at GHS and is up and running. GHS is in need of volleyball officials. If you are interested in becoming a referee and earning a few dollars, please contact Mr. Lehmann.

Parents, please note that each team will soon (if not already) have a parent meeting where parents will receive information about the season schedule, expectations, volunteering opportunities, etc. Parents will be asked to lend a hand at the canteen during their son or daughter’s tournament. Parents will be asked to help out with transportation for tournaments. In order to drive students to and from school events, you must submit the following to the office:

- PSSD Driver Authorization Form

- Copy of driver’s license

- Copy of registration of vehicle

- Copy of insurance policy of vehicle (minimum $1 million liability, $2 million recommended). - Criminal record check. (If you have provided one to ÉGS in the past, please call Mr. Lehmann at 648-2480 to see if another one should be submitted.)

Thank you in advance for your help. All these events would not run smoothly without you.

Chers élèves, parents et membres de la communauté, venez encourager nos jeunes athlètes!

NOUVELLES de 3/4B

Nous avons commencé l’année en faisant de la

révision. On a découvert qu’on a oublié quelques

petites choses. On regarde la vie des pionniers et

on fabrique des cabanes a rondins. Les parents

pourront les voir à la première rencontre. On

pratique aussi comment faire des gestes sur la

scène pour être vu de loin.

We discovered that we forgot one or two things over the summer, so we are reviewing some concepts. The log cabins that we are building

should be available for viewing at the first student led conference.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS

CHILD A Project of Samaritans Purse

Let us take the true meaning of Christmas to

children around the world.

This project involves filling shoeboxes with

gifts for impoverished children. The boxes

will be sent to a collection center in Calgary

and from there they are shipped around the

world to be distributed by International

Partners. The boxes are to arrive at their

destination before Christmas to bring love,

joy, hope and the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Members of the Church of Christ welcome

participation from the community of

Gravelbourg and surrounding area. Shoe

boxes and brochures with suggested items to

purchase are available for anyone who may

be interested.

This project can be done as a group, family or

as an individual. Single items will be

gratefully accepted as a donation towards a

box.

Gravelbourg collection week will be

November 6th to 15th. National Collection

week is November 13th to 19th.

Filled shoe boxes can be returned to École Gravelbourg School or directly to me, Gillian Third @ 306-648-3683.
