École Laurier is a Jr.K-8 French Immersion school with 39 students, 5 teachers and
4 support staff members.
The goal of the French Immersion program enables students to interact spontaneously,
autonomously, and confidently in French with pride and ease. They seek opportunities
to engage in the Francophone community. Their identity as Canadian citizens, compe-
tent in both French and English, creates lifelong opportunities and fosters openness to
other languages and cultures. This program is designed for students whose first
language is not French.
French is the language of instruction for all subject areas except for English Language
Arts and Music/Band, which are taught in English. French Immersion students learn the
same curricular outcomes as students registered in the English program. In addition,
they take French Language Arts.

School Goals During the 2016/2017 school year, École Laurier set
very high goals that focused on improving their
priorities.
1. 80% of all students from grades 1-6 will be reading
in French at grade level by June 2017.
2. By June 2018, there will be an increase in the
number of students displaying good citizenship skills
at school.
3. By June 2017, staff and students will promote the
francophone culture by attending/hosting at least 4
French cultural events or presentations.

Special Events Highlights
We were fortunate to pilot the French
Jr.Kindergarten program for the division. It was
very successful. We had 6 Jr.K graduates this
year. This program is offered free of charge to
four year old children and it complements our
full-time Kindergarten program. We want to
offer families with options and this program will
be offered again next school year. Comité de Parents
We are so fortunate to have an active and dedicated Comité de Parents. They worked hard all year
fundraising for the playground project. Other comité projects were; organized hot lunches, donated Folies
au Soleil t-shirts, sponsored the Grad French award, coordinated Teacher appreciation week, coordinated
the installation of the wrought iron sign and the school billboards.
Next year will be an exciting year of planning and beginning the playground project. Thank you to Norma
Martin and Michelle Assailly who just finished their 3 year term on the comité.
Here is your Comité de Parents 2017-2018.

Félicitations et Bonne Chance
Congratulations to our grade 8 graduates, Ethan
Bennett, Brielle Maguet and Emmalie Thompson.
Emmalie received the Marcel and André Soucy
Sports award.
Brielle received the Angele Mignon French award.
We wish them much success as they depart École
Laurier and enter high school. We hope they stop
by and visit as all our former students always
have a home at École Laurier.
We would like to thank Mme Brook for her hard work
and dedication to our students again this school year.
We wish her a well deserved relaxing summer!
Merci Mme Brook !

Last summer a second water station was installed near the gym at the
start of the year. The school once again collected plastic bags for Bag
Up Manitoba. We were given a herb garden planter which was made from
recycled materials.
L’équipe “Verts de Terre” was formed this year. Students from grades
4-6 took part in this club. They were in charge of the school wide
composting program, planned Earth Day events, monitored litter less
lunch initiative, built two raised garden beds and coordinated the annual
town clean up. All students helped to plant the school garden.
With our sustainability grant, we also purchased a second bench for the
Jr.k-3 entrance.
