Coleman Development Corporation – Using SmartArt in Word 2013 What are SmartArt graphics? Word 2013 includes a design feature called SmartArt. This feature allows you to insert a visual image
into a document to assist in relaying information and offering a greater lasting impact.
What can you create with SmartArt? There are several types of images that can be created in SmartArt. Choosing the correct graphic for your
document is a necessary skill. You can choose from Lists, Processes, Cycles, Hierarchy, and others to
contribute to the information you are choosing to include.
Creating an Organizational Chart Organizational charts are frequently used in corporate settings and help to offer a visual understanding
of an organizations chain of command.
To create an Organizational chart, you must first gather the necessary information and determine the
order in which it should be displayed.
Click the SmartArt button from the INSERT tab.
At the Choose a SmartArt Graphic dialog box, click Hierarchy from the side menu, select the
desired graphic, and then click OK.
Click the [Text] placeholder and type the desired text.
Delete any placeholders you don’t need, or use options in the Create Graphic group on the
SMARTART TOOLS DESIGN tab to add additional placeholders.
Creating a Radial Cycle A cycle graphic is best for relaying a process or flow of something. This can be a useful image when
referring to a multi-step circular process that is repetitive. A radial cycle differs in that its points of
interest radiate from a center concept. It is most used to display a visual understanding of a relationship.
To create a Radial Cycle, compile your necessary information.
Click the SmartArt button from the INSERT tab.
At the Choose a SmartArt Graphic dialog box, click Relationship from the side menu, then click
the specific radial design that best fits your document and click OK.
Click the [Text] placeholder and type the desired text.
Delete any placeholders you don’t need, or use options in the Create Graphic group on the
SMARTART TOOLS DESIGN tab to add additional placeholders.
