MANAGER CORNER:Farewell by Taisha Brunner:The time has come for us, as it does for many, to say Aloha to MCMWTC and the Coleville Community. SgtMaj Brunner (USMC,retired) and myself feel fortunate to have had the pleasure of serving the Marines’, Sailors’, and families of MCMWTC and Coleville for the past 3 years. Please feel free to stop by and say Aloha, before we begin our adventure in August of this year. It is definitely bittersweet, but never goodbye. Always Ahui Hou (Until we meet again).

YARD OF THE MONTH June 1st – October 1st Due to the weather, we have modified Yard of Month to start June 1st.

Residents are judged on many things, but mainly the lease requirements and community guidelines for your yard upkeep, i.e. trash container kept in garage or backyard until trash day, cigarette butts, trash, dog waste kept clean around home, neatness of planting areas and keeping patio furniture or BBQ’s in backyards for use….we’ve had some great yards in the past and we are really looking forward to this new year! Winners announced the first Friday of the month.

Each winner will receive an $80. Visa Gift card! Good Luck!

WITH SUMMER COMES MORE CRITTERS’!The Eastern Sierra is experiencing more than usual rattle snakes in the area so take precaution when you hike in and around the housing areas, mountain lions and bears can also be found in the area. Pest Control for an interior spray is available every Tuesday. Keep backyards free from tall weeds, this will help with spiders. POOL CORNER: By Jordan Workman Sun: Did you know higher elevations mean higher sun exposure? Elevations between 6,000 and 8,000 feet are exposed to 25% more UV rays then at sea level. With summer fast approaching make sure to remember sunscreen and to apply it often. It is also important to make sure your sunscreen has adequate UVB and UVA protection, and that just because the SPF is higher does not mean it offers better protection.Fun fact: Lincoln Military Housing has a program for responsible children between the ages of 10-13 years old. With parent or guardians consent, military ID, and passing a swim test to prove competency children can enjoy the pool without a parent or guardian’s supervision. Make sure to come by and speak to a lifeguard about how to get your child a swim badge today. We have new pool toys!

LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE:Our landscape team is on property every Thursday. Please remove all items from the front and side yards. Please follow these guidelines when planting this spring.

YOU MUST CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR PETS AND CHILDREN TO ASSIST US IN MAINTAINING YOUR COMMUNITY.

• Don’t allow water to hit the side of homes.• Always use a hose and timer. Lincoln Military will provide hoses, timers and sprinklers for side and front yards to homes that are not on a sprinkler system. The backyards are the responsibility of the resident.• Don’t waste water allowing it to run along streets, gutter or storm drains.• Hand water when flowers, shrubs and vegetables need a little extra.• Always use a nozzle to control water use.• Don’t water when temperatures are too high or conditions are windy.• Don’t plant flowers, trees or shrubs in common areas or along homes. Plants are allowed in your backyard and/or in pots in your personal planting areas.

MAINTENANCE CORNER: By Mike PhilipsMake sure your swamp cooler has been “summarized” by LMH staff. If you still have an exterior cover and the cooler isn’t connected to a water source your cooler isn’t ready for use. Please call the office to set up an appointment.

When you 1st turn on your cooler, stand to the side, as dirt/debris might blow into the home. Turn on the pump switch wait to hear the water running in the cooler, and then turn on the fan. Swamp coolers create a moist environment, be sure to keep any electrical equipment (sensitive to moisture) away from the cooler.

Remember dog feces in the backyard will create an unpleasant odor inside your home when running a swamp cooler….be sure to pick-up after your pets.

Did you know that if the average person looks into their trash can there is usually many, many items in there that are recyclable? Everything that is placed into your trash can eventually finds its way to a landfill. Our landfills are filling up fast, so we need to get active and recycle as much as possible to off-set the amount of waste going to our landfills. Look below to get the facts on what can be recycled and what can’t.

JUNE: Recycling - Get the Facts

• Use cold water for washing clothes and only wash full loads of clothes. It only takes 12 to 15 minutes for clothes to be clean unless they are really soiled.• Rinse hand washed dishes in cold water (don’t leave water running) when rinsing dishes.• Run dishwasher only when it’s full and after 7:00 p.m.• Turn off water when brushing teeth, shaving, and washing hands.• Do not use the toilet as a trash can.• Water outdoor plants before 6:00 a.m. or after 8:00 p.m.• Water indoor plants with used cooking water, pasta water, cold coffee, and you can also add the coffee grounds into the plants dirt; it is very good for your plants.• Use a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways and sidewalks.

Join us in helping the environment by living green.
