Some Definitions• SharePoint Apps

– Self-contained extensions that may include cloud-based logic and data. They have their own user interface, data structure and processes. They are only available from the SharePoint Apps Catalog.

• Next Gen Portals– Prebuilt portals from Microsoft that provide a collaborative service such as video management,

people, documents (knowledge Portal) etc. • Business Solutions

– Full business applications which support one or more operational functions such as HR, Finance, IT etc. These solutions include a navigation structure, data model, common user interface and workflow structure. These solutions are often built on SharePoint by consultants or delivered as templates

• Operational Structure – An overall structure in the context of the business operation in which the business is organized

and operates. Within the structure functional operation entities manage different aspects of the business. This is delivered as a SharePoint site structure model.
