Project Description

The Mt Carlton Project is a multi-metal, gold, silver and copper mine producing a met-al concentrate for the Chinese market. The mine consists of two open cut operations lo-cated 150km southwest from Townsville in North Queens-land.

The process plant is designed for 800,000 tpa Ore through-put for a initial 10 year life. Pro-cessing will occur via a gravity circuit and a flotation plant. Filtered concentrate will be dispatched from site by truck in bulka bags for export to Chinese copper smelters. The infrastructure includes tailings dam, mine camp, administra-tion building and maintenance workshops. Power will be grid power and water supply from local borefields.

We chose Plant 3D as our plant design solution as it: met our and our client’s needs, was easy to learn, and quick to implement.

We chose Cadgroup as our training and development partner after they demon-strated greater knowledge and expertise in our industry and Autodesk’s products.- Kevin HolloranChief Draftsman, Calder Maloney

AchievementsCalder Maloney worked with Evolution (previously Conquest) to successfully implement the Mt Carlton project, which gained board approval after an ex-tensive definitive study. With board change, ie Jake Klein as chairman and CEO from Sino Gold company fame in China where Jake lead that company from a $200 million capitaisation to sell for $2 billion two years later, the project is now being successfully im-plemented.

Calder Maloney have succeeded in being the En-gineer from concept to Implementation – through every stage of development since 2007. This strong working relationship with Evolution engendered the project, which commenced with $35 million in the bank, to transform into a mid-tier gold producer and plus $1 billion company within 18 months.

Features• Only multi-metal concentrate project of its type in Queensland implemented during 2011.

• Only development project for Evolution, top ASX 200 company, plus 1 billion dollar capitalisation.

• Single stream Sag mill grinding circuit, live stock-pile feed, bagged concentrate to Chinese off-take agreements.

SolutionThis multidiscipline project demanded collaboration between materials handling, process design, piping, mechanical and structural disciplines. Calder chose AutoCAD Plant 3D for this project as it met all their requirements for the successful execution of project design, documentation and delivery.
